Coalition back in ‘action’

-- Contributed

The Women In Action Against Cancer Coalition of Jefferson County has ended its winter hiatus and launched several spring projects, including preparing 50 “Cancer Care” bags delivered Wednesday to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center for distribution to patients. The bags contained a blanket, tissues, candy, adult coloring books, gel pens, hand sanitizer and a $20 gift card for Bob Evans. On hand for the delivery were, from left, coalition members Janet Sharpe, co-chair; Marcella Miller; Leslie Aftanis, co-chair; Jean Lamatrice, treasurer; and cancer center staff members Rachel Paris, Dr. Dennis Meisner and Marsha Lewis. The coalition’s next project is hosting a return visit of an inflatable colon which will be at the Prime Time Senior Center on Lovers Lane, Steubenville, on March 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Staff from the Trinity Endoscopy Center will be conducting tours of the colon and explaining the various colon diseases displayed as visitors walk through the 10-foot high, 30-foot long colon display. For information about the display or the coalition, contact Sharpe by phone at (740) 632-1144 or by e-mail to janetsharpe@yahoo.com.
