Five representatives of the Fellowship of the Pawns and the Catholic Central Chess Club traveled to Pittsburgh for the 2019 PA state Game 15 Championship. Jack Blake, CCHS, Caleb Bier and Gary Rawson competed in the open section with Blake taking second place under 1,000 and Bier placing third in the under 1,200. Michael Walsh, Brooke High School, competed in the scholastic section and also is a member of the Fellowship of the Pawns Chess Club. Any student at CCHS is welcome to join the CCHS Chess Club, which meets Tuesday afternoons immediately after school. The Fellowship of the Pawns Chess Club is a community club that meets at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday.
