BRILLIANT — Brilliant Lions Club members attended the open house held for the Buckeye North Elementary School renovated auditorium before attending their twice monthly business sessions held Sept. 18.

Club members hauled 292 auditorium seats from Follansbee Middle School to be used in the school building and helped store them in the former Buckeye North Elementary School building. They did other auditorium work as well.

The open house and ribbon-cutting involved Kim Leonard, Buckeye superintendent; Susan Nolan, North Elementary principal who originated the idea for the renovation; and William McElwain, H. Lee Kenney and Tom Timmons, trustees of the Pugliese Foundation that awarded a $53,000 grant for the project.

“The renovation had been a long time coming, but it was all worth it,” commented Nolan, who also is a member of the Brilliant Lions Club.

Dave Porter presided at the meeting held at the club room and attended by 21. The early September picnic was a great success, it was announced. Jim Everson brought the newly ordered Lions shirts, handing them out to members.

Ralph Nickoson reported that plans for the Christmas dinner were under way. It will be held at the senior citizen hall.
