Steubenville Saddle Club
meeting set for Tuesday
RICHMOND — The Steubenville Saddle Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the club grounds, located 8675 state Hwy. 152 N., in preparation for its third and final show of the 2019 season.
That will be held Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. with halter/showmanship classes. Contest classes do not begin before 3 p.m. The September show judge is Charles Schroeder.
The showbills are posted on the club’s Facebook page. Admission is free to the shows, and they are open to the public. The clubhouse features a variety of food with eat-in facilities.
The 2019 show season was been pared from four to three shows with the July show eliminated. The shows are money shows.
Unionport Masonic Hall
to host fundraiser dinner
UNIONPORT — A chicken and steak barbecue fundraiser will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Unionport Masonic Hall, located on county Road 39, Unionport.
The cost for a chicken dinner is $8 and $10 for a steak dinner. A dinner includes choice of chicken or steak, a baked potato, coleslaw, cake and ice cream.
Four Seasons Seniors enjoy
music and are awarded prizes
WEIRTON — The Four Seasons Seniors held their monthly meeting at Undo’s with President Gene Viola presiding.
The opening and closing prayers were given by Tony LaRosa.
After dinner, entertainment was provided by Rick Pastre playing the accordion. Next month’s entertainment will be Ron Retzer.
The reports of the secretary and treasurer were given. There were 41 reservations for dinner.
Guest Norma Henson was welcomed.
Anniversaries were acknowledged, and a report on cards sent as given.
The 50/50 was won by Mary Longhi won the 50-50 drawing. Other prize winners were Chris Sklenar, Regina Truax, Larry Parks and Betty Wamsley.
The next meeting will be on Sept. 18 at Undo’s.

Toronto Sunrise Seniors have
three trips planned but …
TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Roosevelt Building on Aug. 23 with President Barbara Pritts opening the meeting with a blessing for friendship, fellowship and good food.
Reports were given by Secretary Laura Sheets and Treasurer Judy Sabol gave the financial report. Pritts reminded members that new officers will be elected in October and asked members to consider serving in some capacity. Susan Kulstad suggested a tour committee rather than a single tour director.
Birthdays and anniversaries for the second half of August were announced, and the health report was conducted. The September kitchen committee will include Marion Wilson, Phyllis Smith, Bonnie Wilson, Peg Nordenger, Bill Black and Jay Smith.
The group has three trips under consideration but needs more people to sign up before they can become a reality. The first trip is to the School of Performing Arts in Midland, Pa., to see “Frozen” at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7. The second trip also is to Midland, but this one is Dec. 15 for a 2 p.m. performance of “The Nutcracker.” The final trip is the Ohio Star Theater in Sugarcreek to see the “The Christmas Ship” on Dec. 4. This trip also includes a buffet lunch. Any senior citizen interested can contact Pritts at (740) 537-4957.
Marlene Garrett and Frank Marino sold 50-50 tickets, and the winners were Edie Higgins and Bill Kulstad. Susan Kulstad announced a Patriot Day 9/11 candlelight service will be held on Wednesday at the gazebo, beginning at 7 p.m.
Following the meeting, members played bingo. Winners for the evening included Betty Mossor, Lucy Timko, Phyllis Smith, Don Pritts, Frank Marino, Judy Sabol, Rex Mossor, Gloria Howard, Susan Kulstad, Jay Smith, Marion Wilson and Mary Lou Hawkins.
The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Roosevelt Building. Any senior citizen is welcome to attend.
‘Secret Life of Pets 2’ to be
shown at Brooke Library
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the film “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” (rated PG) at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Scio VFD Auxiliary hosting
fundraiser ‘Burger Night’
SCIO — The Scio Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a “Burger Night” fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the R.J. Spiker Fire House, located at 318 W. Main St., Scio.
The meal includes a burger “hot off the grill,” fresh-cut fries and a drink for $6. Patrons can dine in or get carryout. All proceeds support the fire department.
