Women’s golf news
At the annual “Guest Day” of the Cadiz Women’s Golf League held July 17, 44 brave player chased away the rains of Hurricane Berry to get 18 holes of golf in.
A scramble foursome was play of the day. Golf Chairman Janis Cook announced winners as: First place, the team of Janis Cook, Donita Koun, Joyce Burdine and Chris Muroski. Second place was won by the team of Nep Roeland, Kim Criss Karen Simms and Pam DiMinaco. Third place went to the team of Kathy Newburn, Cindy David, Tracy Amos and Kim Thrash.
Roberta Cireddu gave the blessing before the lunch. Following lunch, each person was awarded a door prize of golf accessories. Winning numbers of eight gift baskets, donated by the members were drawn. Chairman Brenda Hartley thanked the various committee members, including Janis Cook, Denise Augustine, Glenda Sensel, Carole Patton, Anne Oaklander, Judy Crawshaw, Donna Griffin and special thanks to the staff of Cadiz Country Club.
Wednesday’s play of the day will be Christmas in July, with Denise Augustine as hostess. Tee time will be 9 a.m.
The women of the Red Oaks Ladies Golf League played the front nine on July 15. The play of the day was a team event: “Select Drive-Best Ball.”
The winning team was Lori DeFallo, Brenda McKlosky and Linda Caputo. Cheryl Black was closest to the pin on hole No. 4. Tammy Koutsky had the longest drive on hole No. 7. Yuko Atwell had the lowest number of putts. Linda Caputo had a chip-in on hole No. 8. Lori DeFallo carded birdies on hole Nos. 3 and 5.
All women are invited to play, which is every Monday at 5 p.m. at Red Oaks Golf Course. The league travels to Highland Springs in Wellsburg the last Monday of each month. Players planning to participate should call the golf course the day of play to sign up before 3:30 p.m.
TOWN AND COUNTRY
Town and Country Golf played the annual Wintersville Trophy Shop 9-Hole Tournament on July 11 at Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield. Low gross winner was Laura Froehlich, and the low net winner was Lucy Karaan. Low putts was Signa Findlay and Rose Kaczmarek.
Other winners were:
Long drive hole No. 3 — A flight, Froehlich; B flight, Pat Zorne; and C flight, Shirley Guida.
Long drive hole No. 6 — A flight, Froehlich; B flight, Zorne; and C flight, Guida.
Closest to the pin hole No. 8 — A flight, Wanda Retzer, and B flight, Lattee Chinakarn.
The results of The Thursday morning Mountaineer Woodview Womens 18-hole league play on July 12 includes the following winners:
First flight, low gross, Mishal Hawthorne and first flight, low net, Lori Syymanek. Second flight, low gross was Cathy Ralston, and second flight. low net was Dotty Virtue.
The proximity prizes went to Elaine Minda on hole No. 14, closest to the pin; Cathy Ralston, closest to the pin in two on hole No. 17; lowest putt, Mary Ann Bainbridge; and longest putt was Cathy Ralston, who also had a birdie on hole No. 14.
The next play will be the annual Jack and Jill Tournament.
