Wellsburg churches uniting

for VBS program July 22-26

WELLSBURG — Several Wellsburg churches are working together once again to offer a Vacation Bible School program with this year’s event to be held from 9 a.m. to noon the week of July 22-26.

It will be held at the First Baptist Church of Wellsburg, located on the corner of 18th and Charles streets near the town park.

Open to children ages 4 to sixth grade, the program theme is “The Incredible Race — One Family, One Race, One Savior.” “Through Bible stories, crafts, games, songs and drama, children will learn about creation; the Tower of Babel and God’s response to the tower by making the differences in the human race; the uniting of all people praising one God; and the ‘Good Samaritan’ example of how we are to treat each other with love and respect, not prejudice and judgment,” a spokesperson noted.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on July 22. Registration forms also are available in advance from the following supporting churches: Wellsburg United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Wellsburg Christian Church, St. John Catholic Church, Franklin United Methodist Church, Community of Christ Church and the First Baptist Church of Wellsburg.

Toronto Sunrise Seniors

plan annual picnic for Friday

TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Roosevelt building on June 28 with President Barbara Pritts presiding.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of of longtime member Kitty Roth. Chaplain Mary Edwards gave the blessing for the meal.

Reports were given by Secretary Laura Sheets and Treasurer Judy Sabol presented the financial report. June birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged.

Pritts reminded members that a bus trip to Hartville is planned for Aug. 16. There are 23 seats still available. Aanyone interested in going can contact Pritts.

Beth Clark was recognized as the member of the month and was presented with a small gift. Time was also allotted for announcements and “bragging.”

The 50-50 drawing was won by Marlene Garrett and Paul Zink.

Edwards gave the benediction, then members played bingo and cards. Bingo winners for the evening included Joyce Gribben, Judy Sabol, Beth Clark, Paul Sherwood, Don Pritts, Helen Bayne, Mary Lou Hawkins, Mary Lou Deku, and Gloria Howard.

The next meeting will be the annual picnic which will be held Friday at Stratton Park. Members are invited to come early and enjoy hot dogs at noon followed by cards and games. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

New Cumberland Lions Club

having pulled pork fundraiser

NEW CUMBERLAND — The New Cumberland Lions Club is organizing another pulled pork takeout fundraiser that will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 27 in the parking lot of the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland

The pork sandwich will cost $5.50 with coleslaw topping available for an additional 25 cents. Smoked chicken halves will cost $6. Both are available as dinners with two side dishes — baked beans and potato salad or coleslaw — for an additional $1.50.

Whole smoked pork butts will be available for $26 by advance order only. To ensure receiving the half chicken — alone or as part of a dinner — or to order a whole porkbutt, advance orders must e phoned in by 6 p.m. July 25 to Andrew Kefer at (304) 459-3437 or Bob Manypenny at (304) 564-5055.
