Blessing of first responders

-- Contributed

Members of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, held the second-annual “Blessing of First Responders” on July 14. “The purpose of the day was to say thank you to our first responders for the difficult job they do every day to protect and keep the community safe,” a church spokesperson explained. The day’s agenda consisted of a brief service remembering members of the police and firefighter departments who lost their lives in the line of duty as well as praying for strength and protection for current police, firefighters, first responders and their vehicles. A luncheon in the church hall followed the outdoor activities. Top photo, from left, are Michael Veltri, Chief Jerry Schumate, Dakota Goff, Shane Roush, Jim Hirkala, Lt. Adam Mills, Lt.
