Book review luncheon March 31

The 53rd-annual book review luncheon sponsored by the Literary Department of the Weirton Woman’s Club will be held March 31 at Undo’s (Holiday Inn) in Weirton, beginning at 2 p.m. The afternoon will feature a drawing for an Amazon Tablet Basket, a used book sale, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Molly Mossor, book reviewer, will portray Hollywood icon Judy Garland, an actress, singer, dancer and vaudevillian whose career spanned 45 years, from a starlet at MGM to finding her own way through music. Garland battled drug addiction and unhappy marriages but managed to stay a popular and beloved figure who never lost her star quality and lives on through movie musicals and concert recordings. Garland was famous for songs such as “Over the Rainbow,” “The Trolley Song,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Get Happy” and “Easter Parade.” Basket drawing tickets are being sold at the Mary H. Weir Public Library until the day of the book review. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. The drawing will be held the day of the book review, and the winner need not be present. Tickets to the book review luncheon itself are $25 and can be purchased by contacting Barbara Raynolds at (304) 723-9772 or Sandra Robbins at (304) 723-4668. Shown are Mossor, left, with Robbins, book review luncheon chairman.
