ADK Chapter honors Sapphire Sisters
WEIRTON — The West Virginia Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators held its March meeting at Williams Country Club in Weirton with President Jerry DeFilippo presiding.
The meeting included the Sapphire Sister ceremony conducted by member Diane Higgins, who presented certificates and flowers to Sisters Ruth Fuller and DeFillipo for their 35 years of service in Alpha Delta Kappa.
Eva Belle Catlett, who was unable to attend, also became a Sapphire Sister.
Appreciation for the three was expressed.
Hostesses Liz Pugh and Diane Higgins used a St. Patrick’s Day theme with green hats and candies on the table.
DeFilippo welcomed the members and recognized four prospective members as Ruth Fuller introduced them. Since the group had not met since December, DeFilippo gave a report on the Tri-Chapter Brunch held on Dec. 1 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville. She also gave a recap of birthdays celebrated during January, February and March.
The “Thought for the Day” and prayer were given Fuller. The selection shared was titled “Spring” followed by a poem, “Awaken to Spring.” Fuller gave the blessing in preparation for the meal.
The December minutes were read by Bonnie Queses. Fuller gave the treasurer’s report.
Member Nancy Deters reported on Alpha Delta Kappa Month by sharing the activities that took place in October 2018 to celebrate the event. Altruistic Chairmen Nancy Conley and Sandy Anderson listed the many donations that have been distributed on behalf of Fidelis Gamma Chapter. Courtesy Chairman Pat Accettolo reported on cards sent. Fraternity Education Chairman Diane Higgins presented information on the history and philosophy of ADK.
Defilippo discussed the directory and the Ohio Valley District meeting that will be held May 4 in Parkersburg.
The next meeting will be held on April 4 at Williams Country Club. Lisa Subrick and Susan Cullinan will be the hostesses.
