Winwood elected to W.Va. Credit Union League board
WEIRTON — Scott Winwood, president and CEO of First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, has been was elected to represent District 1 on the West Virginia Credit Union League Board of Directors.
District 1, which encompasses Brooke and Hancock counties, is one of nine districts which holds director elections every three years. Each of the board members serves as a volunteer and advises league management on its strategic direction.
The league serves credit unions in a variety of capacities including legislative and regulatory advocacy, education and training, compliance assistance, and promoting credit union awareness.
“We are extremely pleased to have Scott join the board of directors of the West Virginia Credit Union League. His 23 years of credit union experience and his strong business background will be tremendous assets in helping set the course for West Virginia’s credit unions going forward,” stated league President Ken Watts. “We look forward to his contributions to the league as he represents credit unions in District 1 on the board.”
Winwood earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and computer information systems from West Liberty State College. Winwood has been involved in financial institutions for nearly 37 years. He joined First Choice in 1997 and served as vice president of finance until being named president in 2004. He is a member of the credit union’s board of directors.
During his time at First Choice, Winwood was awarded the West Virginia Credit Union League Chapter Leadership Award and the West Virginia Credit Union League William Brian Hawkins Award. Those awards are presented to recipients for extraordinary volunteering, service and leadership skills.
Winwood is a lifelong resident of Weirton. He and his wife, Janet, have two children.
Founded in 1936, and headquartered in Parkersburg, the West Virginia Credit Union League is the trade association for the state’s 86 not-for-profit credit unions.
