WINTERSVILLE — A variety of businesses have made a home at Fernwood Suites, two professional buildings at 100 Fernwood Road.

An open house was held Oct. 9 to celebrate the opening and introduce community members to the businesses, which include six businesses operating in two buildings near the intersection of Main Street and Fernwood Road and once occupied by the Jefferson County Genealogy Society and a dance school.

The Polaris Home Funding Corp. offers home loans at competitive rates and closing costs and service in a timely, competitive manner, said owners Michael Freshwater and Jeff Aulet.

The two said it’s a good time to seek a home loan because the pandemic has resulted in low rates, often breaking the previous month’s record.

Licensed in Ohio and West Virginia, they also offer flexible hours, working through much of the day and often doing business with clients over the phone.

Freshwater is a graduate of the former Wintersville High School and University of Pittsburgh and has been arranging home loans since 2015. Aulet, a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and the University of Toledo, has been in the business since 2003.

With Dave Molesky, Aulet also co-owns JD Asset, which specializes in rental properties; and the two and Brian Bardelline co-own Designer Kitchens by JD Homes.

Both businesses also are located at Fernwood Suites, with one of the two buildings occupied by a showroom of some of the many granite countertops and handcrafted cabinets for kitchens, in various colors and styles, available for bathrooms as well as kitchens in new and existing homes.

The business’ installation crew includes Bardelline, Mike Wolfe and Joey Chadwick, while Alexis McVicker serves as its office manager.

As its name implies, it grew from JD Homes, through which Aulet and Molesky have bought, remodeled and resold many homes in Jefferson and Belmont counties.

Licensed in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, The Pro Insurance Group offers a variety of insurance — including health, life, auto, home and business.

It is headed by Matthew Provenzano, a graduate of Catholic Central High School and West Virginia University who began working at Felici Insurance in Follansbee while in college and purchased the agency in 2015, when he changed its name.

Provenzano noted clients of the Follansbee agency will recognize some of his staff, which includes agents Ed Esrkidge, Vinnie Balogna and Brittni Scott; office manager Joy Isinghood and customer service manager Johanna Klepack.

Balogna’s service has been branded “Vin$urance” because he is available to his clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Martello Law Office is operated by Adam Martello, a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Ohio State University and the Duquesne University School of Law.

Through his general practice, Martello offers counsel and representation in various areas, with a focus on estate planning, probate, business formation and defense in driving under the influence cases.

The suites also are occupied by CGD Massage, which is operated by licensed massage therapist Christalgael “Cigi” Damron. The Wintersville native and Catholic Central High School received training in massage therapy from Penn Commercial Business and Technical School.

She offers sessions ranging from 30 minutes to 105 minutes depending on the areas of pain.

Damron said because many of her clients work or attend school, she is available on evenings and weekends as well as during the day.

She became interested in massage therapy while serving as a student trainer for Catholic Central’s wrestling team and has enjoyed being able to provide comfort to people of various ages.

“I love what I do. It’s my passion,” said Damron, who added she has enjoyed working close to home and with a variety of other professionals under the same roof.

Martello said Aulet and Molesky “have done a great job making our building suitable for professional space. I can’t say enough about them.”

Aulet said he’s very optimistic about the new venture he and Molesky have undertaken with many others at Fernwood Suites.

He said, “Every great mentor I’ve had said you should surround yourself with great people and that’s what we’ve done.”
