Air Force has new local recruiter

Air Force Staff Sgt. Alexander Bollis. -- Michael D. McElwain

STEUBENVILLE — Air Force Staff Sgt. Alexander Bollis said he is again available to meet with anyone interested in joining the military branch.

The new local recruiter was assigned to the Air Force’s office at the Fort Steuben Mall earlier this year, but because of the pandemic, he soon found himself making contacts by phone while working from home.

But Bollis said he’s returned to the mall office, where he will be available for in-person meetings by appointment while preparing for a move in August to the recruiting office’s new location near Anytime Fitness on Main Street, Wintersville.

To meet with Bollis, call him at (304) 360-8861 or e-mail him at alexander.bollis@us.af.mil.

Bollis also has been using social media to reach potential recruits. Visitors to the USAF Steubenville, OH Facebook page will find much information about career and educational opportunities through the branch as well as testimonies from local men and women who have served in it.

A York, Pa., native and St. Clairsville resident, Bollis served in the Air Force for eight years as a security forces patrolman based in Korea and was on teams that provided security for Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump during their visits to Afghanistan.

He said through the Air Force, “I’ve gotten a lot of experience in different cultures. I’ve gotten to meet a lot of good people from all over the world.”

Bollis said many Air Force security forces patrolmen go on to careers in law enforcement following their military service. Because he loves the outdoors, he hopes one day to work as a wildlife conservation officer.

Bollis said Air Force enlistees earn credit toward an associate’s degree in applied sciences from their first day of service and may pursue any of about 150 career opportunities.

Full tuition assistance for college courses taken off-duty also is available.
