Free business workshop planned in Brooke County

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Economic Development Authority, First National Bank of Follansbee, area chambers of commerce and local businesses will offer a free business workshop, Inspiring You: Vision to Business, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Brooke County Public Library.

The workshop will feature local business owners Britney Farris of Family Roots Farm and Chatman Neely of Barn With Inn, the Sara Miller House and Martha’s Gallery. They will be sharing some of their experiences in the business world and ideas of how to move a business forward.

Local real estate agent and member of the planning team, Larry Swanson, said the speakers are in a unique position to help other small business owners.

“Individuals who have developed successful enterprises are in a great position to mentor other businesses,” he said.

Neely and Farris will focus on how to foster support within the community.

“Get to know your customer and your business community,” Neely said.

“Learn how to find resources and nurture relationships,” Farris added.

Planners said the workshop will be interactive and business development resources will be shared with the group.

Space for the workshop in limited. Participants can register on the BCEDA Facebook page, facebook.com/bizhivewv. First National Bank of Follansbee will provide refreshments.

The group is looking for future speakers and mentors. Business professionals interested in helping are asked to contact Joan Simonetti, community engagement coordinator for AmeriCorps VISTA, or Norm Schwertfeger, Extension agent, at the WVU Extension office, (304) 737-3666.
