Valley Hospice open house scheduled

STEUBENVILLE – An open house for the newly renovated Valley Hospice Mary Jane Brooks Care Center North at Trinity Medical Center West will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 10, officials have announced.

Area residents will be able to tour the facility, which is located on the seventh floor at the hospital, and learn about Valley Hospice services.

The center will be moving from its location in Trinity Medical Center East.

“Since its opening in 2004, Care Center North has received great support from the community,” said Dr. John Figel, Valley Hospice associate medical director. “It has been my privilege to collaborate with Valley Hospice to help make specialized end-of-life care available in our area. The move to Trinity West is a wonderful opportunity and will have a positive impact on our patients.”

The new center was made possible thanks to a $250,000 capital campaign, said Cynthia Bougher, Valley Hospice chief executive officer.

The Mary Jane Brooks Charitable Trust of Steubenville was the major sponsor for the project, she explained, which gave it naming rights. Valley Hospice also received contributions from members of the community, staff and board members, as well as grants from the Charles M. Pugliese and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation and the Esther Simmons Charitable Trust.

Scheduled to open the week of July 11, the center will feature six private rooms, an eat-in kitchen and a spa, along with 24-hour nursing care and a low staff-to-patient ratio.

“Trinity Health System is pleased to partner with Valley Hospice in bringing its inpatient unit to our west campus,” said JoAnn Mulrooney, Trinity Health System vice president of operations and chief operating officer. “For our Trinity patients, the relocation eases the transfer from acute care to hospice care by simply a short elevator ride rather than an ambulance ride across town. Valley Hospice provides quality, compassionate care. We’re looking forward to making the service even more accessible to our community and patients.”
