Steubenville Police

Telling whoppers: A caller reported a woman sleeping on the porch of a vacant property in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, Wednesday. Police said the woman told them she had permission to be there, but they contacted the property’s maintenance supervisor who told her to leave.

Violence reported: A caller told police “a male was screaming at a (woman) and dragging her into a residence” in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue, Thursday. Police made several attempts to speak with the occupants of the property but no one came to the door.

Measure up: A man in the 100 block of North Fourth Street said he has a protection order against a woman and was concerned she was violating it, Wednesday. He said she hadn’t approached him in any way, but the order prohibits her from being within 100 feet of him and he felt she was sitting too close. Police said she wasn’t and confirmed she lived in the building, was aware of the order and that she hadn’t attempted to speak with him or approach him.

Unfounded: A caller requested a welfare check for a woman in the 100 block of Hollywood Boulevard allegedly arguing with her boyfriend, Wednesday. Police spoke with both parties, who told police there hadn’t been a problem.

Gut punch: A disturbance was reported in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Wednesday. Police said a woman at the location eventually told them her male companion punched her and left the apartment, but she wouldn’t give (them) his name or any other information.”

Theft: An employee at Wal-Mart told police someone stole her purse while she was at work, Thursday. She said it contained about $50 in cash, credit cards, her identification and her Social Security card.

Cited: Ashley Aquilera, 34, 5 Maplewood Drive, Steubenville, failure to control and driving under suspension, Wednesday after a one-car accident in the 1000 block of Adams Street. Aguilera told police her vehicle “had a mechanical failure” and struck a concrete wall.

Follansbee Police

Charged: Kathryn D. Travis, 51, 512 North Fourth St., Steubenville, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing an officer, Wednesday.

Wellsburg Police

Charged: Buddy L. Taylor, 62, 320 Clearview Drive, violation of a bond condition, Wednesday.
