Charged: A Follansbee woman was taken into custody after she allegedly tried to leave Wal-Mart with items she hadn’t paid for, Sunday. Police said Reva A. Yost, 33, 720 Virginia Ave., was charged with petit theft and served with a Municipal Court warrant. Employees at Wal-Mart said they recognized Yost from a previous involvement and began watching her, claiming she skip-scanned several items and consumed a drink she hadn’t paid for, police said. According to police, Yost said she was “dumb for stealing” and later said she “gets a thrill out of stealing even if she can afford the items.” Yost had been on probation for petit theft after being found guilty of shoplifting Wal-Mart merchandise and possession of drug paraphernalia in April but failed to appear, so the warrant was issued. She entered a plea of not guilty to the misdemeanor theft charge.

Bagged: A city resident was taken into custody after a traffic stop, Sunday. Police said Leanore A. Weigner, 52, no fixed address, was charged with misdemeanor theft. They said they’d seen the female drag three large gift bags filled with Kroger merchandise to a car that had no visible registration plate and when they stopped the vehicle claim she initially gave them another name but “was unable to spell (it) and gave several different middle names.” Police report Weigner eventually identified herself properly and reported she told them she didn’t pay for the items in the bags. Weigner was found guilty Monday and sentenced to 60 days in jail, placed on probation and ordered to complete drug treatment, court officials said.

No show: Police said a city resident was taken into custody after employees at Wal-Mart alleged they had seen him putting merchandise in his backpack and trying to walk out of the store, Sunday. Police said Bruce V. Kohlhepp, 27, no fixed address, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft. He was scheduled to appear in Steubenville Municipal Court Monday but failed to appear, court records indicate.

Charged: Joel C.A. Greer, 33, no fixed address, criminal trespass, Sunday. A caller reported Greer was causing a disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of North Fourth Street and had refused to leave. Police said when they arrived, they say Greer “postured up and make an advance” toward the female. He was removed from the residence and, because he’d previously been told he wasn’t welcome in the building, was charged with the violation.

Vengeful ex: A caller told police his ex-girlfriend was inside a Superior Street residence with a male armed with a handgun, Sunday. Police said the man at the residence initially advised the woman wasn’t there, but eventually she came to the door to speak with them. She said her ex “is making up information and filing false police reports” and said she hadn’t spoken to him in several days. She was asked several times if she was in need of assistance and each time said she was not, police said.

Higher calling: Two callers said an unknown woman walked into their homes, then walked out again without saying anything, Sunday. Deputies located the woman in a nearby parking lot and allege she told them she did it “because God told her to” and said she’d smoked methamphetamine. Mollie Beck, 36, 84864 Wallace Road, Cadiz, was charged with criminal trespass, deputies said.

Big dipper: A Tiltonsville resident told deputies her car was in a sinkhole in the alley behind Highland Street, Sunday. Deputies said the vehicle “was in a large hole with the rear end off the ground.” A tow truck was called to extricate the vehicle.

Animal house: A Mingo Junction woman said her boyfriend was intoxicated and they started fighting over guinea pigs, Saturday. She said he “pushed her on a bed and grabbed her by the throat” so she punched him in the nose to get him off her. Deputies said the woman also appeared to be intoxicated but complained the male “gets aggressive when he drinks.”

Fearful wife: A Jefferson County resident said her husband threatened to kill her, Friday. She said he had been drinking and she was afraid “because he put his hands on her before.”

Behaving badly: A Dillonvale woman said her male companion “woke up today, snorted his Subutex and started going off on her,” Saturday. She said he “always gets in a mood after he snorts his Subutex” and this time threatened to break her car windows. She told police she went back into her house and grabbed a golf club and told him she would use it if he came near her again. He left and she didn’t want to pursue charges, but later he called and was upset no one had come to the house. He claimed she was “chasing him around with a golf club,” but hung up.

Concerned family: A caller requested a welfare check on a Yorkville resident and her children, telling deputies her face “appeared to be black and blue” when they spoke with her, Saturday. The woman said they’d been arguing because he had gone to the store and forgot to pick up acetaminophen tablets she’d requested. She said nothing physical had occurred, but she’d been on the phone with a family member during the ensuing argument. Deputies said the woman and her children had no injuries. On Sunday one of them asked a friend to report her sister was being assaulted by her husband at a Yorkville location. The husband said he’d been advised by deputies earlier in the day to leave the residence so things could calm down and had just walked back in his door when he got a text from his sister-in-law warning him she was calling 9-1-1 because he should have stayed away longer. He and his wife both denied there was a problem. He said his wife’s family called because they don’t like him. Deputies said they told the concerned relative they’d advised him to leave earlier but there wasn’t set time he had to say away from his home.

Alcohol fueled: A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Jefferson County residence, Saturday. Dispatchers said they could hear the male screaming at his live-in girlfriend, “calling her names and growling at her” along with glass breaking and threats that he would “burn the house with everything in it.” Deputies said both of them smelled of alcohol, but he wanted her to leave.

Say goodbye: A Wintersville woman told deputies a male had grabbed her and called her a liar during an argument, Saturday. She said when he grabbed her she fought back and he ended up “dragging her out of the house by her ankles.” She was bruised and had scratches, deputies said.

Fraud victim: A Mingo Junction woman said she received a credit card in the mail that she hadn’t requested, Friday. She said the bank told her someone had used her information to apply for the card last week.

Charged: Jeffery David Mowry, 58, 2696 county Road 78, Amsterdam, domestic violence, Saturday.
