Steubenville Police

Fired up: A Weirton man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail after he allegedly fired a gun along John Scott Highway, Monday. Police said they spotted Nicholas Gerbo, 66, 525 Overbrook Towers, walking through a grassy area on the west side of John Scott and said he admitted having a gun and firing it. Gerbo was charged with concealed weapon loaded and discharging a firearm in city limits.

Brawling women: A woman complained that her juvenile cousin had fought her in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Monday. The woman had a freshly bloodied nose and said while her ribs were hurting, that was from “a different altercation several days ago in Pittsburgh.” The cousin said the older woman “was egging her on all day and that the dispute culminated in a fight after (the older woman) pulled her hair.” Police said the juvenile had small scratches on her arm and neck. The juvenile’s mother advised the fight took place in front of her residence and said she would drive the other woman back to Pittsburgh to ensure there’d be no more problems. Police also spoke with a witness who said, “both females were actively engaged in the fight and believed it was started mutually by both parties.” The older woman said she wants to pursue charges.

Drugs charged: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County Jail after police allegedly found .5 grams of fentanyl and 1.3 grams of crack in his possession, Monday. Police charged Robert Weaver, 38, no fixed address, with two counts of possession of drugs as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a crack pipe.

Bothered: A Sinclair Avenue man told police a female was harassing him, but police said they could find no evidence to support his claim, Monday. Police advised him how to obtain a protection order.

Brothers grim: A Ross Street resident said his stepbrother is “making threatening remarks” to him, Monday. Police said the stepbrother had a tent in a neighboring yard, but they were unable to speak with him.

Booked: John S. Powell, 36, 509 Ohio St., Steubenville, probation violation, Monday.

Cited: Darrel W. Stinespring, 56, 2888 state Route 213, Steubenville, marked lane violation after two-car collision on state Route 7 under the Market Street Bridge.

Parent trap: A Steubenville area man said he and his wife started arguing when she walked in “with an attitude” demanding to know where their youngest child was, Tuesday. He said after he told her she hadn’t helped care for them for three months and that she had abandoned them, she lost her temper and threw the television remote at him. He said when he tried to get the house keys off her she “grabbed him by the neck and smacked his face” but eventually threw them at him, striking his face, then left. He said he didn’t want to pursue charges but figured he better report what happened before she did because “she always calls the cops.

Stranger things: A Bloomingdale resident said a family member was “acting strange” and hallucinating, Saturday. The resident said he’d gone to a hockey game and was behaving oddly when he returned. Deputies found him on the floor, partially wrapped in a blanket and “smacking the back of his leg and mumbling.” He agreed to go to the hospital.

Near miss: A Maplewood Drive, Steubenville resident said he was sitting in his sunroom when he heard a crashing noise and his sliding door shattered, Saturday. He said he found a bullet on the ground.

Erratic: A caller reported a man walking behind the Jefferson County Justice Center “with his pants down and acting like he is on something,” Friday. Deputies discovered he lives downtown and gave him a ride home.

Pilfered: A Yorkville woman told deputies someone stole parts from a truck she had parked on a property she owns on county Road 2, Friday. She told deputies the thief stole the gas tank, catalytic converter, radio console and battery from the vehicle and left it on a jack.
