Police reports
Jefferson County Sheriff
Suspicious: Deputies said firefighters in Unionport told them a small brush fire at a residence on Township Road 211, Bloomingdale, “may have been deliberately set,” Wednesday. They said the fire started “the same place as a previous brush fire on the property.”
Harassing behavior: A woman who was arguing with her male companion in the vicinity of county Road 26 and Lovers Lane said she “just wanted to be left alone from the (male’s) harassment,” Wednesday. The male told police he wanted the man “locked up on a mental.” Deputies said it “appeared the (male) was the instigator” and separated the two of them. They said they gave the female a ride home.
DIY caller: A Tiltonsville woman said her son took her car without her permission, but when deputies tried to get more information “she refused to talk to them” and said she would handle it herself, Wednesday.
Mouthy kids: A resident of Buckeye Street, Tiltonsville, said when she asked juveniles not to throw a football by her car they “told her to shut up” but left, Wednesday.
Steubenville Police
Struck: A resident in the 100 block of Belleview Boulevard said a man wielding a brick blindsided him, hitting him with the brick on the left side of his face, Wednesday. He said he’d just returned from dropping his kids off at school and noticed the man and a female companion approaching on foot but “did not pay too much attention to them.” He said the impact knocked him to the ground “as he was dazed from the blow to his head,” but told police he could feel the man “go through his pockets and remove his bank card, food stamp card and (about) $200 in cash” before fleeing on foot across Sunset Boulevard. Police said the man’s face and head were “cut, bleeding and swollen, with his (left) eye completely swollen shut.” Steubenville EMS transported the victim to Trinity West, then transferred to UPMC Eye Center with “two broken bones around his eye.”
Tempers flare: A neighborhood dispute was reported in the 1300 block of Sinclair Avenue, Wednesday. Police said all involved said the argument started over trash on the property, but they were “able to defuse the situation and everyone went their separate ways.”
Asked to leave: An Arlington Avenue resident said she needed police to remove a man from her home who she said had been drinking and got physical with her, Wednesday. She said he was no longer welcome in her home and he agreed to leave, but as he did police said she “began screaming at (him) and shoved him out of the residence.” Police attempted to find out if he’d assaulted her but said the woman “slammed the door and would no longer speak with (them).”
Scammer at work: A Whitehaven Boulevard couple is getting calls from a man “with a heavy foreign accent” trying to wheedle account numbers and other identifying information out of them by claiming someone opened bank accounts in their names in Albany. They said the calls sometimes come from local numbers, other times from out-of-the area but the scammer, who identifies himself as a “David Harris,” also told them “to call an attorney general.” They said they haven’t given the man any of the information he’s tried to get and have not sent him any money, though they did meet with the bank twice to ensure their account was secure.
At odds: An assault was reported in the 700 block of Market Street, Wednesday. Police said the two women involved started arguing again when they arrived, with the alleged assailant “pushing forward and was being verbally loud and aggressive.” The victim eventually told them the two of them had argued earlier in the day and later she was playing cards in the common area when the other woman started arguing with her and grabbed her arm and allegedly threatened to beat her. The alleged assailant told police the card player began arguing with her and as she approached the card player “lifted her arm as if to fight” so she grabbed her arm to stop her. She said her boyfriend pulled her away.
Flipped her lid: Two people were “walking on the sidewalk engaged in a verbal dispute” in the 800 block of North Fourth Street, Thursday. Police said the woman “was shoeless, had grass stains on her pants and was holding a wig,” and told them she wanted the male to leave. The male denied a physical altercation and told police they’d been arguing over “relationship complications.” The female said he was upset she wanted to visit a friend in the North End and “doesn’t like some of the stuff she does,” and told police she is uncertain of what kind of relationship the two were in.
Cat fight: An Oregon Avenue couple was fighting over a cat, Thursday. The female said they’d been arguing and when she tried to call 9-1-1 her male companion “shoved her and took her phone because he was afraid of going to jail.” Police said the male was “highly agitated because the cat was continuously climbing on his head.” He said she’d taken the cat in off the street the night before and since it’s been inside it’s been “agitating him.” He said the woman “began to scream … in his face (so) he shoved her away from him.”
