Steubenville Police
Need for speed: Police said a driver who led them on a high-speed chase through the downtown ended up in custody after the Ohio State Highway Patrol spotted the car they were chasing backed into a wooded area off a dirt road in Pottery Addition, Sunday. Gregory Stiles, 54, 804 W. Fernwood Drive, Toronto, was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of police officer. He also was cited for a stop sign violation and speeding.
Concerned: Residents in the 800 block of Woodlawn Road were concerned a friend was overdosing, Sunday. Police said they were covered in blood, as was their friend, and they told police he “was not acting like himself and (they) believed he was under the influence of something.” Their friend was standing on the porch, awake and alert, but police said he had blood on his face and a large wound to his thumb. They said he was “extremely intoxicated” and told them he “attempted to shotgun a beer and sliced his thumb on the can” and the front door glass was shattered with blood on it. His friends all said he had not behaved violently but they “believed he needed medical attention.” He refused to let Steubenville EMS treat him but his girlfriend said she’d take him to the hospital.
Prowling: A caller told police he saw three people trying to break into cars in the 1200 block of Oak Grove Avenue, Sunday. He said he’d heard a loud crash coming from the street and saw one person getting in a neighbor’s vehicle while two others waited between some nearby houses. He said all three of them fled toward the rear alleyway. The owner of the vehicle said nothing appeared to be missing but police said it appeared that the window had been struck several times.
Ding-dong-ditch: A caller reported juveniles were in the 200 block of Opal Boulevard knocking on doors, Saturday. The caller waited about 40 minutes before calling, but police checking the area eventually sp0tted two kids walking through a backyard on Whitehaven Boulevard and stopped them in the 2600 block of Chestnut Avenue. The two were just 13-years-old and had been warned for being out after curfew just hours prior, so police loaded them into a cruiser and drove them home, where they gave their older sister juvenile court citations for the curfew violation.
Low brow: A Sunset Boulevard resident said a former friend came to her residence, “stood out on the porch and began yelling obscenities toward her and her 12-year-old granddaughter,” Saturday. She said when she told the potty-mouthed woman she’d called police she left.

Phone it in: A Follansbee woman said her husband crept up behind her as she left a downtown club and grabbed her cell phone, Friday. She said they struggled for control of her phone but he eventually was able to snatch it out of her hand, then ran down the street and jumped in his car and fled. She wanted to pursue charges, but only showed police a small scratch on her index finger. Witnesses told police there was no altercation, “just yelling and screaming.”
Self-reporting: A caller reported a woman was refusing to leave a property in the 700 block of North Sixth Street, Saturday. Police said the woman flagged them down as they arrived at the property and said “they called on her (but) she was leaving and would not return.” The callers confirmed she was the one causing them problems.
Not wanted: Police had to remind a man he is not permitted on a property in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Sunday. He told police he was there “to see his child and …grab a backpack.” The callers couldn’t be located so police told his companions to keep him off the property,
Vandalized: A Wilkins Street resident said she saw juveniles running on Oregon Avenue right after she heard a loud bang in the area of her front door, Saturday. Police said her screen door was broken but she didn’t want to pursue charges, though she told police she doesn’t want the kids returning to her property and pointed them to the house the kids had gone into. Police went to the residence and spoke with the mother of the children.
Bullied: A caller reported a juvenile locked himself in a restroom in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard after being bullied by another group of juveniles, Friday.
