Steubenville Police

Wrong place, wrong time: Callers complained of a disturbance in the 200 block of North Seventh Street caused by a woman yelling obscenities and slurs, Friday. Police said when they arrived “groups of individuals were standing throughout the 200 and 300 blocks (of North Seventh) pointing” at a woman leaning against the side of the Urban Mission building. Police said the woman told them she didn’t need assistance and apologized for the disturbance, but they warned her if she continued to cause problems she would be cited for disorderly conduct. They said shortly after they left more complaints came in so they returned and Urban Mission staff asked that the woman be removed from the property. Police said the woman “had numerous plastic totes and miscellaneous items spread (along) the side of the building,” and told her she needed to gather it all up before leaving. She was advised if she returns she could be charged with criminal trespassing. They had to return later after learning she hadn’t left. Police said she was packing her items up and was warned if she wasn’t gone the next time they came by, she’d be cited.

Playing it by ear: A motorist who was giving another woman a ride told police the woman had drugs and she wanted her out of her car but she was refusing, Friday. The woman told police she had a warrant and wanted to go to jail, then followed up by telling them she had drugs as well. Contrary to her claims, police said there was no warrant for her arrest and when they told her she needed to hand over any contraband, she had none. Due to her erratic behavior, after she threatened to consume drugs, police said they searched her but found none. One family member told police the woman is struggling with addiction and is manic, and after another voiced concern for her well-being, she was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Argument: A Sinclair Avenue resident told police she was sitting in the driveway because her fiancé was angry with her and told her not to come home, Friday. She said they’d argued about her taking him to a friend’s house where she didn’t want her son to be, so he got out of the car while she was driving and “told her not to come home, then threw something at the car.” She said she continued home “and he met her there where they continued to argue.” She said it never turned physical but she and her son were going to stay elsewhere for the night.

Not wanted: A woman was upset because no one would let her into a residence in the in the 400 block of Dresden Avenue, Saturday. When police spoke with the couple inside, they learned the male was the only one who had residency in the home, and he didn’t want the woman causing problems on his property. She was advised to leave.

Sleeper: A woman in the 1300 block of Oak Grove Avenue told police she was sleeping when two women started assaulting her, Sunday. She had facial injuries so Steubenville firefighters transported her to the hospital for treatment. Police located one of the victim’s attackers who told them a woman known only as “Brooke” began hitting the sleeping woman, so she pulled her away and made her leave. Police said the woman had no obvious injuries to her hands or elbows.

Being loud: A downtown resident told police a man he didn’t know was yelling at him on Seventh Street near North Street, Saturday. He said the man was trying to start a fight but he walked away instead.

Ducked out: Police said a motorist trying to avoid them caught their attention, Saturday. After an alleged traffic violation, he was pulled over and told them he “was waiting for a friend but was unsure where she was located” and he was nervous driving a car with Pennsylvania plates through the LaBelle hilltop. Police said they didn’t buy his explanation and said when he got out of his car to talk, they noticed his car seat was “covered in several shiny crystal-like shards.” The officer initially believed the shards were small drops of water because it was raining at the time of the stop but realized they weren’t soaking into the fabric of the seat. Police said the tiny shards were believed to be meth fragments, and they also reportedly found chor boy and small burned pieces of plastic, but when they searched the man they didn’t find any drugs so he was issued a warning for the traffic violation.

Drugs: A South Fifth Street resident was concerned her neighbor wasn’t answering calls or the door since the day before, which she said was “abnormal,” Saturday. Police were unable to make contact, either, and since the woman was believed to live alone and had no car, security let them in the residence. The resident was found laying on her back in an upstairs bedroom snoring and said she could not be fully awakened, which is consistent with a drug overdose. She was revived with 12 mg of nasal Narcan and then taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Anger issues: A city resident said her ex is sending her threats, Friday. She said she’s received several messages from the man threatening her with harm.

Disturbing: Callers reported a man was “yelling and threatening someone” in the 300 block of South Fifth Street, Friday. Police said they spoke to all parties and “information was documented for a report.” That report was not immediately available.

Unhappy camper: A man who tried to cash a check at Walmart “apparently became upset and began yelling at the cashier” when he found out they couldn’t do it, Friday. Police told him to contact the corporate office and he left.

Loud: Police were called to the 1500 block of Roosevelt Avenue after callers reported a loud party, Saturday. The resident was advised he needed to keep the noise down and to have everyone go inside. He said he understood.
