Steubenville Police

Alarm sounded: Police were told an employee at a nursing home is facing termination for allegedly stealing narcotics, Wednesday. Administrators told police they’d had an open investigation into missing drugs and said the employee was recorded at the narcotics cart “acting very suspiciously” after which staff inventoried the cart’s contents and determined “more than 30 different types of … pills were missing.”

Rolling away: Police said a driver they tried to pull over for speeding in the 400 block of Lawson Avenue fled on foot, leaving the vehicle in drive, Wednesday. After the driver jumped out the vehicle drifted forward “at a slow rate of speed before striking a garage in the 500 block of Lawson” and coming to rest in a pile of debris, police said. The side of the building and garage door were damaged. Police recovered an ID, credit card and a receipt bearing the name of the man who was believed to be driving.

Headache: A city resident said the mother of her boyfriend’s child is harassing her, Wednesday. She said the woman keeps messaging her that “she needed to leave him … she is ruining his relationship with the child.” She said she’s blocked the woman from contacting her but they she has someone else do it for her. She said two weeks ago the woman showed up at her home and they were “involved in a physical altercation” that she didn’t report.

Recurring problem: A city resident told police she was away from home for two hours and when she returned, someone had broken in, Wednesday. Police said her screen was broken out and the door forced open and she told them she figures her cell phone and other internet-based accounts had been compromised.

Still invested: A resident said she was taking her child to school when another woman pulled up next to her and started yelling, Thursday. After dropping the child off at school, she tried to go home by a different route but saw the woman “taunting her” from the corner near the Lawson Avenue ramp. She said the harassment is “constant and (she’s) extremely tired of dealing with it.”

Booked: Damion N. Irizarry, 48, no fixed address, bench warrant (violation of bond conditions), Wednesday; Bruce Kohlepp, 27, no fixed address, warrant for failure to appear, Wednesday. Kohlepp was spotted entering an abandoned residence and when police saw his bicycle inside the front window they ordered him out.
