Police reports

Steubenville Police

Telling tales: A man walked up to a cruiser in the 100 block of South Fourth Street and told the officer he was on parole in Brooke County for murder and became belligerent, Saturday. Police said the man “seemed to be intoxicated” and would “ramble on about how much he loves us cops and then would become belligerent again.” He was advised go home.

Campground: Someone reported seeing a homeless encampment behind the waste water building, Friday. Police said they found a red extension cord stretching from the back of the building and into the woods, where they located “five or six makeshift tents.” A woman who was there told them she and four other people are currently staying there. She was advised to vacate the property and make sure the others staying there did the same.

At rest: A caller said a woman sleeping on a porch in the 400 block of North Fifth Street was refusing to leave, Friday. Police found the sleeping woman and told her the homeowner doesn’t want her on the property.

Fled: A man flagged police down on North Seventh Street to point out a motorist backing out of a lot “at a high rate of speed” that he said had just robbed him of all his money, Saturday. Police located the vehicle minutes later, and when they asked the driver to exit the vehicle to talk with them, she and a passenger began “digging around the vehicle.” When they got them out of the vehicle police reported finding white crumbs believed to be crack as well as $250 in currency “all through the vehicle, in the crease of the back seat and in the front cup holders.” Police seized all but $6, which she claimed was hers, but because the complainant had left the scene, police told her the report would be sent to the prosecutor.

Drugs: An overdose was reported in a Ridge Avenue basement, Sunday. A friend of the man told them he’d “done a ‘line’ but wasn’t sure what he’d used, and police said he was given an unknown amount of Narcan that he “eventually” had a positive reaction to. He was transported to the hospital for further treatment and issued a drug treatment form.

Drinking: An unresponsive male was reported on Third at Washington streets, Saturday. Police said firefighters were already on scene and the man was alert when they arrived and said he told them he’d had too much to drink. He refused treatment and police gave him a courtesy ride home.

Kicking cans: A woman who sat her phone on top of a trash can while she cleaned out her purse in the 200 block of North Seventh Street forgot to grab it and when she returned it was gone, Saturday. Bystanders said when she found out no one had turned it in she “apparently got mad and dumped the trash can in the lot.” While she was cleaning up the trash, police said they watched video showing a female with blonde hair picking it up and putting it in an older Jeep.

Assault: A man in the 100 block of South Seventh Street said he was assaulted by a man known to him, Sunday. He said the man fled the scene.
