Jefferson County Sheriff
Charges: Felony charges have been filed against two people who allegedly reported a weekend drowning that didn’t happen, with charges pending against a third person.
Dillonvale County Court records show Breanna L. Watkins, 28, and Mathew M. Hunt, 43, both of Steubenville, each face felony charges of inducing panic, making false alarms and obstruction of justice, along with a misdemeanor charge of falsification.
The purported victim, Richard Newlan, 40, of New Matamoras is expected to be charged with inducing panic, making false alarms and obstructing official business, the sheriff’s department reported.
Watkins and Hunt allegedly had reported seeing a man jump into Friendship Park Lake Sunday morning.
Scam alert: A Bloomingdale man said he got a letter claiming he owned the Small Business Administration money that he never borrowed, Monday. The sender threatened to garnish his Social Security if he didn’t pay up. He said he contacted the SBA and was asked to file the report.
Steubenville Police
Headed for trouble: A juvenile was spotted trying to enter a vacant property in the 1400 block of Ridge Avenue, Monday. The caller said when he confronted the youth he “became argumentative” but did not cause any damage.
Code issue: A notice of violation was sent to the owner/occupants of a property at 2610 Chestnut St., outdoor storage (two mattresses on side of residence.)
Cited: Kathleen D. Fowler, 57, 7 Reese St., Lot 7, Empire, improper lane/marked lanes, after a two-car collision Monday on Sunset Boulevard at John Scott Highway. The other motorist involved, Tracy R. Saemenes, 30, 2226 Sunset Blvd., also was cited for an expired registration.
Cited: Ricki N. Greene, 29, 2614 Sunset Blvd., Apt. 4, Steubenville, no operator’s license and assured clear distance ahead after a two-vehicle fender-bender Monday in the 2400 block of Sunset Boulevard; Leah LeMasters, 30, 233 Hallock Ave., Mingo Junction, operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control, Saturday.
