Police reports

Steubenville police

Time to go: Three men dressed all in black, one of them possibly armed with a gun, entered a residence on State Street without an invitation but left just as quickly when the homeowner said she pointed her gun at them and told them to get out, Sunday. She told police they entered through an unlocked door and asked where one of her sons was, so she said she encouraged them to leave. She said one of the men stood on her porch holding the door so she pointed her gun at him and told him to leave her property and as they left, said one of them stopped and pointed what she thought was a 9 mm gun at her so she kept her gun aimed at him and again told him to leave, then all three of them ran westbound on State Street.

Agitated: A man causing a disturbance at a city restaurant ended up in police custody after the disturbance he caused inside the eatery spilled over in his interaction with police, Sunday. Michael F. Ledyard, 63, 801 Lawson Ave., Steubenville, was charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, police said. Employees said Ledyard became irate when he found out they’d run out of rice, “becoming agitated, yelling and cursing” at the staff and throwing a glass that shattered on the floor. Witnesses said the staff offered to get him another side but “he was not satisfied … and instead continued to yell and curse at staff members,” and was asked several times to leave but refused and that several customers stood up to intervene should it be necessary. Police said when they told Ledyard he was going to be booked he “was upset that he was not arrested,” though they said he had earlier been “loud and belligerent” with the same officer and “even stated that he did not wish to speak with (the officer) nor hear (his) explanation as to why things had taken place they way they did because (the officer) was an idiot.”

Luck o’ the Irish: St. Patrick’s Day revelers were involved in a domestic in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard, Sunday. The female was laying on the garage floor, and the male told them they’d been drinking with friends and the woman got upset because she didn’t think he was paying attention to her. He claimed she’d been drinking heavily and “began getting too close to him,” but denied pushing her. The female claimed he’d shoved her “against the door post” three times, but police said there was nothing to suggest there’d been a struggle and there was no damage to the door or door frame, nor was a towel on the dislodged.

Made it worse: A woman allegedly trying to flee a traffic stop ended up hiding in a closet in her home, Sunday. Police said Ayla Kellar, 27, 2403 Cleveland Avenue, was charged with fleeing and eluding and no operator’s license, and served with a misdemeanor theft warrant issued in October and a felony theft warrant issued in November involving Kroger. An officer said he spotted Kellar on Sunset Boulevard and said she initially pulled over, then “began to accelerate and make … sporadic movements as if she was attempting to strike parked vehicles.” They allege Kellar sped off “at an extremely high speed,” at one point veering into oncoming traffic lanes and running a stop sign before exiting her vehicle and running into her home. Police said her vehicle caught fire but they were able to extinguish the flames themselves.

Charged: Amanda R. Lemasters, 36, 704 S. Chester St., New Cumberland, misdemeanor theft, Sunday. Employees allege Lemasters removed a cell phone from a locked security rack and entered the restroom without paying for it and refused to come out. When police got her to exit the restroom they said the phone box was damaged, and said Lemasters told them she wanted to purchase it but didn’t have enough money. Employees examined it told police Lemasters had already set up the lock screen.

Charged: Johnathan G. Williams, 34, 205 S. Fourth St., Apt. 2, Steubenville, domestic violence, Saturday. Police allege Williams was seen on video choking a woman while holding her against a gray vehicle during a disturbance in the 200 block. They said he initially denied it, but once he learned there was video they said he “admitted to grabbing her but denied choking her.” They said the female confirmed he’d choked her but refused to press charges.

Don’t return: A Maryland Avenue resident said a man who’d moved some furniture for her returned to her home, pounding on the door “and when she opened it, he walked inside,” Saturday. She said she asked him to leave several times but he refused, then became angry “and spit on her screen door toward her and said he would be back with his girls.” She said she did not want him to return, so police located him and relayed the message.

Over indulged: A woman who’d had too much to drink was causing problems in the 500 block of Lawson Avenue, Sunday. Police said she was “highly intoxicated and … making comments regarding her daughter, who was not present.” She said she was locked out of her residence and trying to get back inside. An individual who was in the house had called for help because she “highly intoxicated” and they’d argued and alleged she “began throwing objects around.” She walked out on the porch so he locked her out of the house and when police arrived, volunteered to stay with friends for the night.

Holding on: A Claire Avenue resident said a woman had his phone and wouldn’t return it, Saturday. Police helped him retrieve it from a Carnegie Street residence.

Trashy: A resident in the 2800 block of Sunset Boulevard told police her neighbor has been “(putting) garbage in front of her home without her permission for some time,” Saturday.

Served: April Stanley, 48, no fixed address, trespassing, Friday.

Kicked: A woman in the 100 block of North Fourth Street said a man tried to kick her door in, Friday. She claimed he stole items from her apartment.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Cited: Gabriella G. Sunyoger, 9378 state Route 152, Richmond, space between moving vehicles and a marked lane violation. A deputy said Sunyoger was northbound in front of him on state Route 43 near the county Road 45 intersection, “following another vehicle so closely they were nearly rear-ending the vehicle in front of them.” The deputy also reported seeing her vehicle cross over the white end line several times “as if they were attempting to get the vehicle in front of them to speed up or illegally pass them.” He said he followed her for about a mile before pulling her over, and when he did alleges “she instantly became argumentative and stated there was nothing illegal about the way she was driving.”

Trespassing: A Toronto area resident said someone tore his barbed wire fence and no trespassing signs down, Saturday. He said he’d recently told a neighbor’s child to stop riding his dirt bike in his field and found the fence and signs torn down after that, but hadn’t seen anyone do it.

Charged: Derrick Austin Eakle, 23, 117 George St., Mingo Junction, domestic violence, Saturday. Neighbors had reported a disturbance, and deputies said they discovered a female with “fresh contusions and minor abrasions” to one side of the woman’s face. She didn’t want to pursue charges but deputies took Eakle in custody. They said both parties had been drinking.

Bad driving: A woman crossing the road in a crosswalk near Ridgewood Place said she was struck on the leg by a silver SUV that didn’t stop, Friday. She said the car slowed down then sped up, “never coming to a complete stop.”
