Steubenville Police
Too close for comfort: A Lawson Avenue resident reported a disturbance with her husband and his girlfriend, Tuesday. The wife said the three of them argued after she asked her husband for a ride to the store. Her husband and his girlfriend said the caller was upset when they told her they wouldn’t take her and the girlfriend claimed his wife “pulled her hair and attempted to light it on fire,” but police said there no sign her hair had been ignited. Police said it was apparent “it would be best for the parties to separate,” so the wife was advised to return to the residence and the husband was told to take his girlfriend elsewhere until things calmed down.
Rough patch: Police said the “front passenger side tire was completely torn off” a disabled vehicle on Mall Drive “due to several large and deep potholes,” Wednesday. They said it’s “known to be a common occurrence at (that) location.” The vehicle also was leaking oil.
Gassed it: A city resident reported a motorist deliberately hit her with his car, Wednesday. Police said her knee and ankle were “obviously swelling.” She told them she’d been at Kroger with a friend and while waiting for the other woman’s daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend to arrive spotted a wallet on the ground near her vehicle. The victim said she and her friend were talking about turning it in when her daughter and the boyfriend arrived “and began to argue with them about turning over the wallet.” She said the boyfriend started screaming at his girlfriend’s mother, so she stepped between them, then they exchanged words. She said he then “hit the accelerator … and struck her, almost pinning her into a parked vehicle.” Her friend confirmed her account, as did a third individual who witnessed the incident. She told police she wants to pursue charges.
Squatting: Two people were caught living inside a vacant property in the 300 block of South Bend Boulevard, Tuesday. Police said a caller spotted them going inside and when they checked the property observed damage inside and out along with footprints that they followed to a back room where they allegedly found Pauline Oxley, 38, and Emmet Blanchard, 40. The pair, who have no fixed address, were issued summons for criminal trespass, and warned not to return to the property.
Accident: A female struck a pole at a downtown gas station, Tuesday. She told police she was pulling forward to the gas pump when she hit it. Police said the pole was not damaged, but the driver’s side of her truck was.
