STEUBENVILLE — In its final home dual of the season, the Steubenville wrestling team welcomed Barnesville to the Crimson Center on Wednesday and turned away the Shamrocks, 37-27.

A rematch of the 182-pound OVAC semifinal highlighted the dual as Big Red’s David Tuttle faced off against Brylan Clouse. Tuttle, the second-ranked wrestler at 182 in Ohio Division II, won the semifinal in January, sending the match into overtime with 16 seconds remaining before ultimately winning, 5-3, in sudden victory. Clouse, the No. 3 wrestler at Division III, was able to avenge that loss with a 3-1 win on Wednesday. Clouse scored two points in the first period and maintained that edge until the closing seconds. Tuttle — much like in the OVAC meeting– scored in the closing seconds but the escape was not enough.

Clouse’s win put the Shamrocks just one point behind Big Red, as Big Red held on to a 28-27 advantage.

Big Red’s resident 195-pounder, Keith Bodnar, bypassed the forfeit to wrestle up and face Barnesville’s Zack Meade at 220. Bodnar not only wrestled up but stepped up with a 3-2 decision — scoring a reversal with just 10 seconds left — to increase Steubenville’s lead, 31-27.

Heavyweight Manny Ware pinned Avery Clouse to seal the deal for Big Red.

Big Red was able to overcome two early Barnesville pins by winning five of six matches between 120 and 170. Bill Murray (120) won by major decision over A.J. Francis, Zane Minella (145) decisioned Dylan Glotfelty and Anthony Rice (No. 2 at 152 in Division III) wrestled to a 11-6 final over Cameron Woods.

Making easy work of their opponents with first-period pins were Steubenville’s Peyton Blasko (126), Tyler Muldrew (132) and Ethan Pappas (160).

Griffen Stephen (106) and Griffin Wells (113) recorded quick pins for the Shamrocks. Barnesville’s Jacob Boulet (138) and Owen Oliver (170) also registered falls.

Steubenville and Barnesville return to action in sectional tournaments that each team hosts, Feb. 22 and 23.
