Madonna girls cruise to victory

WEIRTON — The Madonna girls basketball team rode a strong first quarter to an 80-50 victory over Valley on Thursday.

The Blue Dons led 17-2 after the first quarter and 36-21 at halftime.

Andrea Alimario led Madonna with 22 points. Gia Riccadonna recorded 17 points. Jazzlyn Melnyk delivered 12 points, while Michaela Battista added nine.

For Valley, Shyanna Moore led with 15 points.

Madonna is back in action Monday, hosting Catholic Central.

CONNORVILLE — Emily Holzopfel had a near triple-double in Buckeye Local’s 73-35 victory over Edison on Thursday.

Holzopfel finished with a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. Audrey Sebring and Alaire Destifanos had 10 points apiece. Brooke Roski added nine points.

For the Wildcats, Ashley Grafton led with 13 points. Sydnee Keenan contributed eight points. Lauren Ferralli and Kenzi Potkrajac added six each.
