Post 33 splits doubleheader

MT. AIRY, Md. — The Jefferson County Teramana Post 33 Legion baseball team split a doubleheader in the Maryland Round Robin on Saturday.

First, Post 33 fell to Mt. Airy, 5-2. Alec Taylor doubled home both runs.

In the second, Post 33 defeated Annapolis 10-0 in six innings. Matt Bell picked up the victory in four innings pitched, while Luke Zorne pitched the final two frames. Post 33 had 15 hits combined.

McFarland nails hole-in-one

NEW CUMBERLAND — Joe McFarland of Follansbee is the latest to record a hole-in-one at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course.

He put his gem in the Par 3, No. 8 hole on June 12 while playing with the weekday morning “skin” group. He used a six hybrid to sink his shot on the 125-yard hole. Witnesses were Lyndal Yeater, Paul Rafacz, and Rocco Pasquarella.

MF to hold Pinto All-Star tourney

MARTINS FERRY — The Martins Ferry Civics will hold a Pinto Classic All-Star Baseball Tournament from July 25-29.

Entry fee is $200 with three games guaranteed, pool play into single elimination. Skill competitions will also be held in three categories: base running, throwing and home run derby.

Trophies will be awarded for first and second place teams and skill competition winners.

The tournament is for community/recreation players only. No travel teams or players. Martins Ferry Civics reserves the right to deny or remove any entrants at their discreation.

MF to hold Mustang tournament

MARTINS FERRY — The Martins Ferry Civics will host a Mustang All-Star Torunament from July 9-15.

Entry fee is $200 with three games guaranteed. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place teams, and medals for third and fourth place teams.

The tournament is for community/recreation players. No travel teams or players. Martins Ferry Civics reserves the right to deny or remove any entrants at its discreation.

Paul Menard wins pole

JOLIET, Ill. — Paul Menard has won the pole for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

It’s the second career pole for Menard, who has just one top-five finish this season. He also qualified first for a race at Daytona almost exactly 10 years ago.
