Post 33 starts state tourney with a win over Utica

LANCASTER –Steubenville Post 33 began play in the Ohio American Legion state tournament Wednesday morning at Beavers Field , and did so victoriously, taking a 8-0 win over Utica Post 92 to advance in the winners bracket.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Post 33 scored two in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fourth to take control, adding a run in each the fifth and sixth innings to pull away to the eventual 8-0 final.

First baseman Anthony Zorne collected three hits, two for extra bases, and three RBIs, third baseman Johnny Agresta had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs, and catcher Chris Mazar added a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the way offensively.

Ryan Bernard picked up the win on the mound, striking out three and walking two over five innings of work.

Post 33, now 27-11 on the season, is back in action today at 4 p.m. facing Lancaster Post 11.
