WINTERSVILLE — The Edison baseball team scored six times in the top of the second inning and cruised to a 12-1 victory over host Indian Creek at the John Muth Recreational Complex Wednesday.

“From pitch to pitch, I think we’ve brought a really good approach,” Wildcats head coach Mike Collopy said. “These guys know that in order to be a good team you have to be consistent and that’s what we’re trying to do every day, whether it’s on the mound, at the plate, defensively or on the bases.”

Edison’s Larry Bielawski continued his outstanding start to the season with four RBIs, thanks to a home run and single.

Zac Kramarich, the winning pitcher, Dalton Cresap and Bryce Piatt each drove in a pair of runs. Kramarich struck out four, walked two and allowed four singles.

“Our situational hitting can always be better,” Collopy said. “Our pitchers don’t always get ahead. Defensively, I don’t think we’re where we need to be. There’s always something to work on.”

Indian Creek’s Cody Allan took the loss. He was replaced in the fourth inning by Brayden Starkey. The defense committed six errors.

“One word sums up that performance today and that’s ‘pathetic,'” Redskins head coach Mike Cottis said. “We have a young guy out there making his first varsity start. We have played good defense all year and today we didn’t do that.

“When you get down like that against any team — I don’t care who you’re playing — then it becomes mental. Then they beat themselves. That’s where we’re at right now.

“There are some guys who may not get many more opportunities because we’ve given them two weeks and they’re not producing.

“So, some changes are coming.”

Creek’s Trevor Martin had an RBI single that brought home Austin Rawson.

The teams face each other Friday at Jefferson State Lake Park.
