Oak Glen defeats Wildcats

NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen wrestling team won six of eight matches contested on the mat Wednesday to beat Edison, 59-13.

Peyton Hall (120 pounds), Colin Stanley (132) and Tony Minnis (286) recorded pins for the Golden Bears.

Ty Logsdon (106) and Shawn Moore (113) won by major decision and Trey Wright (126) by decision.

Oak Glen also won five matches by forfeit.

Oak Glen will compete in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Tournament beginning next Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

West Branch tops Catholic Central

BELOIT — West Branch won its eighth straight game with a team effort Wednesday. Five Warriors scored in double figures in a 74-46 win over Steubenville Catholic Central.

West Branch (10-1) scored the game’s first 11 points.

Natalie Zuchowski led the charge with a game-high 17 points. Hannah Ridgway followed with 12 points and Brenna Rito, Emma Rankin and Kayla Horvorka had 11 apiece. Horvorka grabbed seven rebounds.

The Warriors improve to 10-2, while the Crusaders drop to 10-3.

West Branch led 20-7 in the first quarter and 36-15 at halftime.

Freshman Isabella Oliver led the Crusaders with 13 points. Brittany Bertoia added 12 points and Samm Simmons had six rebounds. Gabby Capaldi added nine.

CCHS (10-3) welcomes Tusky Central Catholic today.

Warriors down ‘Cats

RICHMOND — Buckeye Trail outscored host Edison 22-6 in the third quarter in a 57-41 victory Wednesday night.

Skylar Fankhauser led the Wildcats with 15 points, while teammates Kayla Huff, Lauren Ferralli and Sarah Anderson chipped in with eight points each.

The Wildcats visit East Liverpool tonight.
