Big Red Boosters hosting bus

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red Boosters Club will sponsor a bus to the Ursuline game on Oct. 7 in Youngstown.

Seats are $35 with game ticket included on a first-come basis. This is a non-alcohol, non-smoking bus.

Herrmann earns ECAC honor

DANBURY, Conn. — Franciscan University of Steubenville junior Leo Herrmann was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South Offensive Player of the Week. Herrmann pushed his season goal total to 12 with three this week and added an assist to push his career point total to 100 points.

Herrmann is the fastest Baron to reach this milestone and currently sits atop the national goal leaders and is fifth in the country in points this year (25).

FUS loses at Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. — The Franciscan University of Steubenville volleyball team suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Barons fell to Penn State Altoona, 3-2, Wednesday night.

In a back and forth affair, the Barons won the second and fourth set, 25-18, 25-17, but dropped the first, third and fifth, 25-19, 25-17, 15-11.

“We definitely battled tonight and played a very strong second and fourth set,” said head coach Kelly Herrmann following the match. “We were just too inconsistent. We did have some really bright moments and served really tough at times, we just have to find our consistency.”

Sophomore Maria Ciola led the Barons with 12 kills while Roz Pridemore had eight and hit a team-best .375 for the match.

Franciscan plays again on Saturday at Pitt-Bradford.

University beats Weir

WEIRTON — On Tuesday, the University girls soccer team beat host Weir High, 4-1.

Scoring the lone goal for the Red Riders was Hannah Dragonir.
