Ferralli and Govey net hat tricks for their teams

WELLSBURG — The Brooke boys soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Elkins on Saturday.

Konner Govey netted a hat trick for the Bruins, who improved to 2-1-1 on the year.

Assisting on Govey’s goals were Nick Calvert, Nick Cruny and Gavin Browne. In goal, Matthew Redd made 15 saves

“Our defense played extremely well,” said Brooke head coach Joe Pepe. “We’ve been playing great defensively in the past three games.”

The Bruins also had 16 shots on goal. Elkins’ lone goal was a Jared Parsons penalty kick.

With the loss, Elkins is now 2-2 on the year.

The Bruins are back in action on Monday at Beaver Local.

Big Red beats Beaver

CALCUTTA — The Steubenville boys soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Beaver Local on Saturday.

Big Red returns home on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match with Indian Creek.

Weir shuts out Polar Bears

WEIRTON — The Weir High boys soccer team beat Fairmont Senior by a score of 1-0. Chayton Luevano scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half off an assist from Ryan Bodrog.

Goalie Brett Hinchee had six saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wildcats defeat JM

RICHMOND — The Edison girls soccer team picked up a 4-2 victory over John Marshall on Saturday.

Scoring for the Wildcats were Lauren Ferralli with three and Chelsea Petzker with one. Assisting on the goals were Ferralli, Alexa Irvine, Katia Scaffidi and Melissa Tran.

In goal for Edison, Abby Booth made four saves and Chessa Cunningham made two.

The Wildcats attempted 12 shots on goal.

Edison is now unbeaten and plays at Oak Glen on Monday.

Big Red wins at

Ridgewood

WEST LAFAYETTE — The Steubenville girls soccer team shut out Ridgewood on Saturday, 2-0. Scoring for Big Red were Seana Ragusa and Knisha Saunders. Ragusa assisted on the Saunders goal.

In the win, Big Red had 29 shots on goal and earned eight corner kicks.

The Steubenville defense did not allow any shots on goal or corner kicks for Ridgewood.

“We moved the ball much better than we did on Wednesday (at Madonna) and had a better showing from our defense,” said Steubenville head coach Jared Robinson. ” We definitely pushed the ball up the field and did a better job keeping the ball on their end as well. We are still struggling to find the back of the net. The balls are either hitting the posts,skimming over, or finding the keeper.  It took some time for our girls to get used to the sand on the field but we did a good job pushing through it and staying focused.

“All in all it was a solid performance from the girls and a good way to respond to a hard defeat on Wednesday.”

Steubenville is back in action on Tuesday at East Liverpool.

≤ In volleyball, Buckeye Trail beat Indian Creek in four sets and Meadowbrooke beat Steubenville in three sets.

≤ In girls soccer, Elkins beat Brooke, 2-1, and Wheeling Park beat Weir High, 5-1.
