Toronto volleyball starts season at 1-1

BELLAIRE – Toronto volleyball lost in three sets to Bellaire on Thursday. The Big Reds won, 25-23, 25-15 and 25-20.

“The scores in first and third sets speak volumes,” said Red Knights head coach Chelsey Fletcher. “We played hard and hung with the OVAC champs; however, the second set effort was low.

“These ladies have to learn to come back strong after hard fought sets. We identified what needs work and will address it in practice preparation for Tuesday’s home game vs. Harrison.”

Delaney Merideth led Toronto with 13 points, three blocks, and six kills; Josey Jones had 10 points, two digs, and eight kills; Miranda Robinson had 11 points, eight assists, one dig, and five kills; Serena Burkey had six points and two digs; Jenna Leasure had 12 points, one assist, two blocks, and nine kills; Emily Anderson six points and one block, Sydney Troski had two digs.

On Wednesday, Toronto beat Shadyside in three sets, 25-10; 25-13; and 25-10.

Stat leaders were Robinson with 22 points, 10 assists, and two digs; Jones with seven points, seven kills, five assists, one dig, and one block; Burkey with 16 points, two assists, and one ace; Merideth with 10 points, three blocks, and two kills; Robins with four points, one assist; Troski with six digs; Leasure with 10 points, one block, and one kill and Anderson with six points.
