Brooke blanks Preston

WELLSBURG – Cheyenne Hudson scored a pair of goals to lead the Brooke girls soccer team over Preston County, 4-0, on Thursday.

“We played well in some facets of the game and not so well in some other facets,” said Bruins coach Lee Weppler. “Our defense really played a nice game.”

Leila Hannaui and Jena Riccili also scored for Brooke (3-0-1). Hannaui, Brette Geary and Emily Bernardini each had an assist. All four goals were scored in the first half.

In goal, Andrea Jenkins made one save for the Bruins. Brooke returns to action Thursday against Weir High.

Oak Glen blanks Indian Creek

MINGO JUNCTION – Kennedy Graves scored two goals to lead the Oak Glen girls soccer team over Indian Creek on Thursday. Emily Bodo added another goal for the final 3-0 score.

In goal for the Golden Bears (2-1), Erin Fields made seven saves. Katie Scott stopped 13 shots for the Redskins (0-4).

All 20 players appeared in the game for Indian Creek.

Edison tops St. Clairsville

RICHMOND – Amara Proffitt, Melissa Tran and Bethanie Bube all scored in Edison’s 3-0 win over St. Clairsville on Thursday.

Courtnie Bube and Kayla Cronin had assists for the Wildcats (2-0).

In goal for Edison, Katie Oinenon made one save and Emily Smith made two. For the Red Devils, Madie Fogel scored and Tatiana Bran made nine saves.

Edison will play on the road and Steubenville on Saturday.

Madonna beats Trinity, 8-4

MORGANTOWN – The Madonna girls soccer team topped host Morgantown Trinity, 8-4, on Thursday. Scoring twice for the Blue Dons were Gianna Antinone, Hannah Barger and Mia Antinone. Rachel Grubbs and Gaby Kotten also scored.

Leanne Grubbs collected three assists, Leanne Grubbs had two and Bargar, Maria Mazzone and Rachel Grubbs had one assist.

Madonna’s Tessie Tokash had six saves and Kasey Canei had two saves. Trinity’s Megan Myers had 12 saves.

The Blue Dons are 2-1 and play Tyler Consolidated at home on Saturday at 11 a.m.

  • In other girls soccer action, Linsly topped Catholic Central, 2-1 and Wheeling Park shut out Weir High, 3-0.

Park boys best Brooke

WHEELING – Brooke’s Paraag Gupta scored on a Garrison Mathison assist, but it wasn’t enough for the Bruins to beat Wheeling Park on Wednesday. The homestanding Patriots won, 3-1, in the early season match up.

Jonathan Benson had one goal and two assists for Park, Jacab Klatt and Brady Wood each had one goal.

Chris Beamon made 13 saves for the Bruins (0-2).

Madonna wins quad match

WEIRTON – The Blue Dons golf team outlasted Weir, Oak Glen and Linsly on Thursday at Williams Country Club.

Matthew Lyons and Howie Peterson each shot 38 to lead Madonna. Nick Mazur and Nick Higgins each shot 41.

The Dons had a team score of 158 for the win.

Linsly, led by medalist David Coram (37), had a 166 for second place.

Weir shot a 206 with Austin Paul-Orecchio leading the way with a 42. Noah Wodnicki had a 43, Reis Petrovich had a 60 and Joe Patterson had a 61.

Oak Glen shot a 213 as Trey Reese had a 47, Haley Spurlock had a 50, Mike Watkins had a 53 and Jayson Chappell had a 63.

Brooke edges out South

MORGANTOWN – The Brooke golf team came out with a one-shot victory over Parkersburg South in Morgantown.

The Bruins came out with a 170, led by Logan Lojszczyk’s 39, while South had a team score of 171.

Michael Spitak had a 40 for Brooke, while Evan Cuomo had 44 and Mario Boni had 47.

For Parkersburg South, Adeena Shears ha d a 41.

University High hosted the match and placed last with a 175.

Crusaders win tri-match

STEUBENVILLE – Nick Ivkovich shot a 40 to lead the Central golf team in a tri-match against Toronto and Buckeye Local at Steubenville Country Club on Thursday.

The Crusaders finished with a team score of 171, with Austin Meronoff shooting a 41m Kevin Wells shooting a 45 and Brandon Svec shooting a 45.

For Toronto (215), Sante Carducci had a 50, Nick Ighnat had a 53, Parker Wright had a 55 and Jared McVicker had a 57.

For Buckeye Local (279), Dan Duill had a 56, Austin Anderson had a 60, Jake Savage had a 69 and Josh Faldowski had a 94.

Harrison edges Monarchs

CADIZ – Austin Kowalski had 41, Evan Ossman had a 43, Jarett Edwards had a 45, while Clint Heavilin and Bryce Walrath each had 46 in Harrison Central’s 175-194 match win over John Marshall at Cadiz Country Club.

Colton Patrello led JM with a 46.

Edison fall in four sets

RICHMOND – The Edison volleyball team fell to East Liverpool in four sets on Thursday, 12-25, 17-25, 26-24, and 20-25.

The Wildcats weren’t short on statistics, though. Tera Anderson had 10 points, three aces, five digs and one kill; Kayleigh Westbrook had eight points, one ace and nine digs; Cassady Jarvis had five points, 12 kills, five blocks and two aces; Sarah Ross had two points, two kills, one block and five digs; Skylar Fankhauser had six points two aces and six digs; Caitlin Shannon had eight digs and 17 assists; Alison Crawford ahd two kills, one block and one dig; Kayla Huff added one kill and McKenzie Morrison added one dig.

  • In other volleyball action, Martins Ferry topped Catholic Central in three sets.
