Annual football edition can be previewed Tuesday

STEUBENVILLE – Football fans, be sure to kick off the upcoming season in style with the Herald-Star and Weirton Daily Times. Our annual preseason tailgate will be held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Herald Square Park, 401 Herald Square, Steubenville.

The event will be a chance to get an early copy of our annual football preview magazine entitled, “The Gridiron.”

“Our annual community tailgate party is a great way to get an early jump on the high school football season,” said Ross Gallabrese, executive editor of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. “Our annual football edition has always been a must-read before the season opens. We’re excited about the new format for this year’s edition, and are certain local fans will be impressed.”

This year’s preview edition is better than ever with 132 glossy-printed pages containing feature stories, rundowns of our local schools and team photographs.

Those who attend the tailgatewill be able to purchase a copy of the football edition and enjoy a hot dog, drink and chips for $3. Proceeds will benefit the literacy programs at the newspapers.

The preview magazine will be inserted into Wednesday’s Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.

“Each year, the football preview is a labor of love,” said sports editor Mike Mathison. “Myself and our sports staff spend long hours making sure every detail of every team is covered.”

Added multimedia editor Michael McElwain, “This is the best high school football preview in the Tri-State area. Do not miss your chance to get your hands on the magazine which is sure to be your football encyclopedia all season long.”

Copies of “The Gridiron” will be available for purchase at area newstands later in the week.

The annual college and professional football preview will be inserted into Friday’s paper.
