Madonna tennis wins regionals

WEST LIBERTY – The Madonna tennis team earned its first ever regional title on Friday at West Liberty University. The boys team finished as regional champions while the girls were runner-up, just two points behind Oak Glen.

Nine out of Madonna’s twelve position players have qualified to compete at the state tournament in Charleston next week.

For girls singles, Morgan Duerr finished first overall and Ali Welch finished third overall. Elizabeth Conforti remains undefeated, finishing first overall.

In girls doubles, Duerr and Elizabeth Conforti finished first overall, while Welch and Christina Conforti finished second overall

In boys singles, Matt Conforti finished first overall and Thomas Gianni was second.

Alan Alimario also finished first overall.

In boys doubles, Ryan Watts and Cole Roberts finished first overall and Conforti and Gianni were second.

Besides the state qualifiers, boys singles player Dominic Clements beat North Marion and Oak Glen to make it to the semifinal round but fell to Ravenswood.
