Crusaders, Huskies split; Creek wins
CADIZ – The Steubenville Catholic Central and Harrison Central baseball teams split a doubleheader Saturday at Sally Buffalo Park.
The Crusaders earned a 10-1 win, but the Huskies came back to claim a 3-2 victory.
Aleks Porreca blasted a grand slam in the third inning and earned the mound win with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Tony barber pitched the final three outs.
Brenton Colabella added three singles and three RBIs and Michael Barber and John DiCarlantonio each added a pair of singles.
Tyler Redish had a single, double and the only RBI for the Huskies. Dalton Rutter added two singles.
Dustin Redish took the loss. He fanned 10 and walked seven. Giovanni Rocchi K’d five and walked one in three innings.
Brennan Graves struckout 11 in picking up the Game 2 win. Rocchi had an RBI and Austyn Porter singled for an RBI.
Mark Rest allowed three singles in taking the loss. Kutch Clark singled for the two RBIs. Stone Romano doubled.

Creek beats Panthers
MINGO JUNCTION – The Indian Creek baseball team rebounded with an 8-2 victory Saturday at the John Muth Recreational Complex over Buckeye Local.
Both teams had four hits, but the Panthers totaled four errors.
Aaron Crawford went the distance for the win. He fanned nine and did not issue a free pass. Cole Yeater and Mason Gibbons each singled for an RBI. Adam Freshwater and Tanner Wise each had an RBI.
Chad Figurski had a single and a pair of RBIs for Buckeye Local. Chase Hopkins took the loss in four innings of work.

Bruins top Blue Eagles
NEW MARTINSVILLE – The Brooke baseball team earned its 13th win of the season with a 6-3 victory at Magnolia on Saturday.
Mario Lombardi went the distance, striking out eight and walking three.
Kalean Welch and Heath Hildreth each collected two doubles and a pair of RBIs. Russell Schwertfeger added three singles.
Brooke visits Beaver Local on Monday.

Red Riders, Jets split
WEIRTON – The Weir High and Union Local softball teams split a twinbill on Saturday.
The host Red Riders won 10-8, then dropped a 9-8 decision in eight innings.
Weir came back from a 5-0 deficit after a half-inning. It scored three in the bottom of the inning and then four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-7 lead.
Ashlynn Drizake totaled four RBIs on three singles and a triple. Abby Pratt, who earned the mound win, added two singles and a pair of RBIs. Samantha Tate and Jillian Karavanic each added a single and two RBIs.
The Red Riders had an 8-2 lead through five innings in Game 2, but the Jets scored six in the top of the sixth to tie the game and added one in the eighth.
Pratt took over for Mariah Stevens in the sixth and took the loss.
Tate led the 11-hit attack with two singles, two doubles and two RBIs. Stevens delivered two singles, a double and two RBIs, Drizake a single and two RBIs and Pratt a single and RBI.
The Red Riders host Oak Glen in West Virginia Class AA sectional play in a Wednesday doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m.

NEW MARTINSVILLE – The Brooke softball team finished its regular season in style with a doubleheader sweep at Magnolia Saturday, 2-1 and 9-0.
Kaylee Kuchinski outdueled Magnolia’s Mallory Chapman in the Game 1 nine-inning victory. Kuchinski struckout three and walked one.
Taylor Simala had the game-winning single and RBI. Brette Geary also added an RBI single in the first inning.
The Bruins scored four times in the top of the first inning in Game 2 and cruised behind Katie Castellucci, who fanned seven, walked five and allowed three singles.
Michaela Hinerman led the 14-hit attack with a triple, three singles and an RBI. Sabrina Duffy added two singles and an RBI and Geary and Castellucci each had a single and RBI. Isabella Preston had two singles and Cassi Camilletti a double.
Brooke visits Wheeling Park in a West Virginia Class AAA sectional game on Tuesday.

Edison splits in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN – The Edison softball team fell to Ursuline 7-0 on Saturday, but rebounded with a 7-4 win over Liberty.
In the first game against the Fighting Irish, Kayli Stewart, Skylar Fankhouser and Caitlin Brenstuhl each had singles.
On the mound, Zoe Westfall took the loss depsite striking out three, walking two and only allowing four hits.
Against Liberty, Brenstuhl earned the win with 12 strikeouts and five walks. Charli McConnell reached base on three singles, while Morrison singled, tripled and brought in two runs.
Fankhouser collected a pair of singles and two RBIs. The Wildcats (6-12) and host Oak Glen Monday.
