Madonna girls, boys still undefeated

The Madonna girls and boys tennis teams remain undefeated with Saturay’s sweep of East Fairmont and St. Marys.

The girls (10-0) beat East Fairmont 6-1 and St. Marys 7-0.

The boys (8-0) won in reverse scores, 7-0 and 6-1.

For the girls, Ali Welch beat Brittany Brumage 8-1, Tina Conforti beat Cara Laswell 8-0, Elizabeth Conforti beat Erica Gorman 8-3, and Morgan Duerr dropped a tough 9-8 (7-5) decision to Carrington Reese.

In doubles, Welch and Tina Conforti beat Laswell and Reese 8-1, Elizabeth Conforti and Duerr downed Brumage and Gorman 8-3, and Eva Bowser and Annie Frankovitch defeated Ashley Gerace and Marcie Corder 8-5.

Against St. Marys Welch won by forfeit, Tina Conforti defeated Abby Gelner 8-3, Elizabeth Conforti stopped Hannah WIlliams 8-1 and Duerr blanked Sarah Everett 8-0.

In doubles, Welch and Tina Conforti beat Graham and Gelner 8-3, Elizabeth Conforti and Duerr downed Williams and Everett 8-2, and Bowser and Frankovitch defeated Emily Powell and Alice Nichols 8-1.

For the boys against East, Matt Conforti beat Ben Costello and Thomas Gianni beat Isaac Flohr by 8-0 scores, and Dominic Clements topped Andrew Crandahl and Alan Alimario beat Zac Henlim by 8-3 scores.

In doubles, Conforti and Gianni beat Costello and Andrew Small and Clements and Alimario beat Kevin Webb and Aiden Snodgrass by 8-0 scores and Ryan Watts and Cole Roberts edged Isaac Flohr and Evan Flohr 8-5.

Against St. Marys, Conforti won via forfeit, Gianni defeated Lucas Powell and and Clements won 8-4, and Alimario downed Eli Stewart 8-3.

In doubles, Conforti and Gianni won by forfeit, Clements and Almiario nipped Powell and Stewart 8-6, and Watts and Roberts edged Nick Beaty and Ian Kelly 8-5.

The Blue Dons face Wheeling Central Tuesday and travel to Morgantown to face University High School and Morgantown High School on April 21.

Cambridge sweeps Big Red, Creek

STEUBENVILLE – Cambridge swept Steubenville, and Indian Creek 5-0, Saturday at Belleview Park.

Zach Padden defeated Jorge Dominguez 6-0, 6-3; Seth Rhodes stopped Phil Stoutz 6-3, 6-0 and Nate Thompson beat Federico Torres 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Perry Eldridge and Mike Givens edged Tyler Clevenger and Alex Isla, 7-5, 7-5; and Braden Good and Clay McCauley downed Dom DiCarlo and Nate Kurty 6-0, 6-4.

Against the Redskins, Padden beat Justin Caniff 6-1, 6-4; Rhodes blanked Paul Voltz 6-0, 6-0; and Thompson defeated Cole Recinella 6-2, 6-0.

Good and McCauley downed Caleb Smith and Gave Thomas, 6-4, 6-0; and the Bobcats won the other doubles match by forfeit.

Oak Glen sweeps tennis matches

WELLSBURG – The Oak Glen girls tennis team beat St. Clairsville (7-0) and host Brooke (6-1) on Saturday.

Against the Red Devils, Haley Spurlock blanked Danielle DeNoble 8-0, Madison Juszczak beat Katelin Gandee 8-1, Madison Hill nipped Alexa Clark 9-7 and Katie Szymanski defeated Paige Beckett 8-3.

In doubles, Spurlock and Juszczak beat DeNoble and Gandee 8-2, Hill and Szymanski topped Clark and Beckett 8-3 and Molly Swartzmiller and Kayla Strong beat Angelle Collins and Paige Foltin 8-1.

Against Brooke, Spurlock beat Cassidy Bland, Hill bead Maccie Carroll and Szymanski beat Joanna Weiler by 8-1 scores. Juszczak topped Lauren Shelton 8-3.

In doubles, Spurlock and Juszczak won by forfeit. Hill and Szymanski defeated Morgan Zopp and Weiller 8-4.

Brooke’s Jessie Wayne and Sydney Stewart beat Swazrtmiller and Strong 8-2.
