Central stays unbeaten

STEUBENVILLE – The Catholic Central basesball team stayed unbeaten with a 7-1 win over Parkersburg Catholic on Friday, improving its record to 7-0.

Aleks Porreca earned the win for the Crusaders, pitching a complete game, striking out six and walking just one.

Michael Barber singled and doubled at the plate, while Brenton Colabella collected two singles.

Chris Murphy tripled and Tony Barber added a single.

Central is back in action today at 4:30 p.m. as it hosts Charleston Catholic at Vaccaro Field.

Huskies stop Union Local

CADIZ – Zach Arbogast tossed a complete game 2-hitter, while striking out five in Harrison Central’s 8-2 win over Union Local on Friday.

At the plate, Brennan Graves had a single and drove in three runs.

Dalton Rutter, Austyn Porter, Nick Staten and Ian Saho all had two hits each. Staten drove in a run, while Saho brought home two.

Giovanni Rocchi singled and doubled, while Arbogast reached on a single.

Big Red regroups for win

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville softball team beat Martins Ferry, 4-1, on Friday – a day removed from its first loss of the season.

Freshman Hayley Stamps struck out three batters.

Kesha Barz and Nauja Banks led Big Red (8-1) with two hits each.

Creek downs Crusaders

STEUBENVILLE?- Indian Creek and Steubenville Catholic Central had a scrimmage match on Thursday.

Indian Creek’s Caleb Smith and Cole Recinella defeated Colin Greve and Ethan Phillips 5-7, 7-5, 6-0.

Central’s Caleb Moore and Khalil Jones beat Felix Deutscher and Gabe Thomas, 6-2, 6-2.

Central’s Cody Raymond edged Thomas in an eight game pro set (7-7, 7-2 tiebraker). The next match for Central will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Park in East Liverpool against American Spirit Academy.
