Big Red’s Nehrbas-DiCarlo take second at No. 3 doubles
WHEELING – Steubenville Big Red’s No. 3 doubles team of Annie Nehrbas and Dom DiCarlo made a run to the championship match Monday at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Tournament at the Wheeling Park tennis bubble.
The Big Red duo dropped an 8-5 decision to Parkersburg South’s Franklin Miller and Evan Fleak.
Nehrbas and DiCarlo made it to the final with 8-1 (quarterfinal) and 9-7 (semifinal) victories.
Parkersburg South placed teams in all three of the doubles divisions and ended up with one champion.
At No. 1, John Marshall’s Hayden Blazer and Tyler Keller defeated Grant Tebay and Garrett Dailey (Parkersburg South) 8-6.
At No. 2, Morgantown’s Steven Wu and Adam McKnight stopped the Patriots’ Camilo Sarzosa and Alexander Herring 8-3.
Parkersburg South leads the team competition with 10 points.
Morgantown is in second place with seven points followed by John Marshall, Linsly, and Weirton Madonna with four points each. Cambridge, Steubenville and University each have three points. Wheeling Central, Wheeling Park and East Liverpool each have two points and, finally, Brooke with one point after the first day of competition.
The girls doubles competition started today at 8:30 a.m.
The boys singles will be Wednesday and girls singles Thursday. Both are 8:30 a.m. starts.
All matches are scheduled to be played at West Liberty. The competition will be moved to the bubble in case of rain.
