Wildcats nip Ferry in OT

With two seconds left in an overtime period, Edison’s Austin Horan made a lay up for his only field goal of the contest. It was enough to break a tie and lift the Wildcats to a 59-57 win over Martins Ferry at home on Saturday night.

“It was huge,” said Edison coach Nate Moses. “The kids really needed this and we have a lot of momentm going in to Tuesday’s game against Union Local.”

The Wildcats (1-2) dropped their first two games to Toronto and Beaver Local by a combined nine points.

Erik Lee led the Wildcats with 16 points and Dylan Jones added 11 with a 3-pointer. Skylar Wilkins dropped 11 points, also, and drained a pair of triples.

Edison led 27-18 at haltime and limited the Purple Riders to just three points in the second quarter.

“We got their big guy in foul trouble and played very tight defense,” Moses said. “We went on a great run during the second quarter, too.”

The Wildcats outscored Martins Ferry (1-2) 5-3 in overtime.
