Crusaders defeat Red Riders
STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team swept visiting Weir 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 on Senior Night Monday.
Monica Rigaud paced the way with 21 points, 18 kills, eight blocks and six aces; while Madeline Gulan delivered 20 kills, seven points and three blocks. Senior setter Robyn Runkel added 23 assists and 18 points.
Kamy Belardine chipped in with 10 points and eight digs; Monica Fischer 11 points, four kills and three digs; Ashlynne Daley four kills and two blocks; Logan Colabella five kills; Megan Lloyd three points, seven assists and three kills; Fran Capaldi three points and five assists; Suzy Thibault one point and three digs and Samm Simmons two kills.
The Crusaders (11-7) take on Beallsville Wednesday.
Edison sweeps Brooke
WELLSBURG – The Edison volleyball team swept host Brooke 25-17, 25-21, 25-13 Monday.
Caitlin Brenstuhl led the way for the Wildcats with 20 assists, nine points, four aces, seven kills and three blocks. Alexis Gill added six points, two kills and two blocks; Cassady Jarvis six points, two aces, seven kills and three blocks; and Maddie Williamson 10 points and four aces.
Katelyn Pollock delivered 10 points, six aces, six kills, three blocks and seven digs and Kaylee Neal five points and five digs.
Angela Staffileno paced the Bruins with 17 kills and five blocks. Kourtney Leonard added five points, six digs and three kills and Abby Adams 11 points, two aces and three blocks.
Emily Stuck had four points, three aces and 14 assists, Isabella Preston seven digs and Alivia Brown 13 digs.
Brooke (7-14) hosts John Marshall today.
Edison welcomes Harrison Central on Wednesday.
Edison blanks Bears
RICHMOND – The Edison girls soccer team blanked visiting Oak Glen, 4-0, Monday.
Bethanie Bube scored twice as the Wildcats raised their record to 7-3-1. Amara Proffitt and Kylie Long also scored. Bube and Long had the assists. Katie Oinonen had five saves.
Casey Highfield totaled 10 saves for Oak Glen.
Edison visits Brooke on Wednesday, while the Golden Bears head to St. Clairsville on Wednesday.
Red Riders down Potters
WEIRTON – The Weir High girls soccer team defeated visiting East Liverpool, 2-0, Monday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
Alyssa Shingle’s goal four minutes into the second half proved to be all the Lady Riders (11-5) would need. Sophomore Alyssa Kelly and senior Madison Dalrymple combined on the shutout, the fourth in a row.
Shingle assisted on Francesca Farran’s goal as the Red Riders have won eight in a row and stand at 11-5 on the season.
The Potters’ Chelsea Possage collected 18 saves.
Weir High visits Steubenville Big Red today.
St. C downs Panthers
RAYLAND – The St. Clairsville volleyball team swept host Buckeye Local 25-15, 25-9, 25-12 on Monday.
Morgan Fedorko had four kills, four digs and two blocks for the Panthers. Morgan Staten added three kills and five digs; Nicolette Devore five assists and three digs; Kylie Lovinski nine digs and two aces; Amanda Barbarossa three digs and two assists and Becky Zeroski 11 digs.
