Dons, ’Skins, Wildcats win on the links
CADIZ – The Madonna golf team shot 160 to top Meadowbrook (178) and Harrison Central (178) at Cadiz Country Club Tuesday. Meadowbrook was awarded second place after going to a second tie-breaker against Harrison Central.
Thomas Gianni and Nick Mazur both shot 38 to lead the Blue Dons. Mike Rogers and Alex Colantonio each added a 42 as the Blue Dons had the top four scorers in the tri-match.
Meadowbrook was led by Nate Frencik’s 43 with Damon Moore shooting 44, Zach Clair 45 and Devin Webster 46. Ian West was the first tie-breaker with a 48 and Cameron May the second with a score of 50.
The Huskies were led by Austin Kowalski’s 43 with Bryce Walrath, Ian Saho and Evan Ossman all shooting 45. Jarrett Edwards 48 was their first tie breaker and Matt Hawthorne shot 55 for the second tie breaker.
Redskins beat Red Riders
BLOOMINGDALE – The Indian Creek golf team defeated Weir 184-228 Tuesday at Red Oaks Golf Club.
The Redskins’ Aaron Foldi and Chris Riffee shared top honors, each shooting 45 on the day.
Cody Hopkins added a 46 and Justin Dailey a 48 for Creek.
Tyler Warrick led the Red Riders with a 52 while Austin Paul-Orrechio added 54. Joe Patterson and Erick Winwood each shot 61 for Weir.
Edison goes 1-1
CALCUTTA – The Edison golf team split a tri-match scoring 196 to Salem’s 175 and Beaver Local’s 197 Tuesday at Beaver Creek Meadows.
Jimmy Marsh shot 44 for the Wildcats with Ben Boyd shooting 47, Clay Woodward adding a 48 and Shane Pendleton shooting 57.
Salem was led by medalist Jordon McGuire’s 41 with Andrew Robbins shooting 42, Ryan Hoover a 44 and Garrett Ring a 48.
Beaver Local received scores from Qwintan Carr (48), Joe Newlin (49), Landon Palma (50) and Hayden Moore (50).
Brooke finishes third
PARKERSBURG – The Brooke golf team finished third out of five teams at the Two Rivers Athletic Conference Golf Championships Tuesday at Woodbridge Golf Club.
The Bruins shot a team score of 370 led by Logan Lojszczyk’s 88. Also scoring for the Bruins were Noah Teaff (89), Michael Petrosky (93) and Trey Gilham (100).
Parkersburg South shot 329 to win the event. University (337) finished second, Morgantown (395) finished third and John Marshall (474) finished fifth.
Bruins top Fairmont Senior
WELLSBURG – The Brooke girls soccer team handed visiting Fairmont Senior a 4-2 defeat Tuesday.
The Bruins’ Michaela Hinerman had a pair of goals with Leila Hannoui and Cheyanne Hudson each adding a score.
Brett Geary had two assists while Dynah Sayre and Lauren Altobell dished out one apiece. Goalie Payge Farmer saved three shots.
Megan Wilt and Maddie Craig each scored a goal for the visitors. Ivey Mucilli had nine saves.
Brooke travels to Weir Thursday.
Oak Glen stops Indian Creek
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Oak Glen girls soccer team defeated Indian Creek 4-1 Tuesday.
Gabie Lemely had a pair of goals to lead the Golden Bears. Mollie Williams and Devon Temple each scored one goal, with Emilie Bodo and Page Freeman both adding an assist. Casey Highfield had five saves in goal.
Karli Celestin put in the Redskins goal on a free kick and goalie Kristen Shimko saved 12 shots.
Oak Glen hosts Harrison Central today at 6 p.m. while Indian Creek is at Madonna Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Crusaders blank Golden Bears
STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Catholic Central boys soccer team defeated Oak Glen 5-0 Tuesday at Tony Recinella Soccer Field.
Leo Herrmann scored a trio fo goals for the Crusaders, all coming on John-Paul McNamara assists. Jude Ledyard had a goal and an assist. He assisted on a goal by Brady Bolger and McNamara picked up his fourth assist when Ledyard found the back of the net. John Bolster had six saves.
Oak Glen goalkeeper Ian Travis stopped eight shots.
Both teams are in action Thursday with Catholic Central heading to Harrison Central at 5:30 p.m. and Oak Glen hosting St. Clairsville at 6 p.m.
Weir ties Tyler Consolidated
MIDDLEBOURN – The Weir boy soccer team played to a 3-3 tie at Tyler Consolidated Tuesday.
The Red Riders received goals from Chayton Leuvano, Ryan Kirk and Alex Hannah. Goalie Matt Tenaglio had five saves.
Weir travels to Edison Thursday.
Edison falls to St. Clairsville
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Edison boys soccer team lost 10-1 to St. Clairsville.
Edison received their goal on a shot from Travis Bell off an assist from Zac Sansone.
The Wildcats (0-5) host Weir Thursday.
Red Knights lose in four
BRIDGEPORT – The Toronto volleyball team fell in four sets to Bridgeport, 33-35, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22, Tuesday.
Amber Fuller had 26 points and six assists, Chelsea Anderson had 16 points and two kills and Katie Spadafora had 14 points, 10 kills and eight blocks. Mykia West added two blocks, Emily Anderson 13 points, Josey Jones 12 points and three kills and Miranda Robinson eight points, nine kills, two blocks and four assists.
The Red Knights travel to Conotton Valley Thursday to take on the Rockets and East Richland Christian School in a tri-match.
