Creek sweeps Riders
WEIRTON – The Indian Creek volleyball team swept host Weir High 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 Thursday evening in the Carl Hammil Fieldhouse.
Bethany Davis totaled seven kills and three digs, Whitney Martin nine digs and six kills and Martina Marko six kills and three blocks.
Mallorie Sullivan delivered 12 digs, Alexis Fithen four kills and two blocks, Kiarra Kamarec five kills, three digs and two aces, Kaylee LaRue seven digs and three aces, Brooke Spence four digs and Jessica Furda 22 assists, nine aces and five digs.
Morgan Goff collected 21 digs for the Red Riders. Kim Persina added six points, six blocks and five kills, Selena Wolverton seven digs and two points, Samantha McCartney 29 sets and two blocks, Ontasia Petteway six digs, Elizabeth Kush three digs and two kills, Hannah Hinerman five digs, Kayla Margerum two digs, Samantha Tate three points and two digs and Michayla Dobosz one block and one dig.
Central tops Rockets
STEUBENVILLE – The Catholic Central volleyball team cruised past visiting Conotton Valley 25-15, 25-5, 25-10 Thursday.
Senior sentter Robyn Runkel led the way with 17 points, 24 assists and four aces. Monica Rigaud delivered 10 kills and eight blocks, Monica Fischer 11 points, eight kills and two assists and Madeline Gulan 10 kills, eight points and four blocks.
Kamy Belardine added 12 points and 10 digs, Taylor Bednar 11 points, six kills and five blocks, Logan Colabella three kills, Megan Lloyd 13 points, eight assists and two kills, Fran Capaldi six assists and two digs and Ashlynne Daley two kills and two digs.
The Crusaders host Weir High Monday on Senior Night.
Red Knights split a tri
WHEELING – The Toronto volleyball team split a tri-match Thursday, losing to Linsly 25-22, 25-15 and beating Paden City 26-24, 18-25, 25-23.
“I am incredibly proud of tonight’s win against Paden City for two reasons – we beat a very sound program after playing absolutely terrible mental volleyball against Linsly,” said Red Knights head coach Chelsey Fletcher. “Tonight is the first time I’ve had to get really firm with these ladies and discuss any disappointment regarding a low level of play.
“They came out in the second match after our brief chat with the deepest level of mental toughness they have exhibited this year. Tonight’s win helped our record but more than anything added to their character – we ended our week extremely positive.”
In the two matches, Chelsea Anderson delivered 13 points, six kills and six digs; Amber Fuller 21 points, two kills, four digs and 10 assists; and Emily Kosikowski one kill.
Katie Spadafora contributed 13 points, 10 kills and six blocks; Mykia West 10 kills and six blocks; Emily Anderson 13 points and nine digs; Josey Jones 17 points, 10 kills and three digs; Miranda Robinson 22 points, five kills, two digs, three blocks; and 16 assists and Serena Burkey two assists.
Blue Dons sweep Dragons
CAMERON – The Madonna volleyball team swept host Cameron 25-4, 25-15, 25-14 Thursday.
Sophomore setter Chloe Conner totaled 29 assists, four digs and three aces, Monica Bragg 11 kills, seven aces and four digs and Eva Bowser six kills.
Dominique Brown added two aces; Leah Colantonio one ace; Courtney Kaczmarek three digs and two aces; Anne Magnone two kills; Maria Notni two attacks; Amanda Paul five digs; Emily Pietranton one dig; Gabrielle Sellitti three kills; Taylor Thompson two aces and three digs; and Paden Raymond one attack.
Potters down Big Red
STEUBENVILLE – The East Liverpool volleyball team defeated homestanding Steubenville Big Red 12-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 Thursday night in the Crimson Center.
Abby Taylor totaled seven points, two kills, 17 assists, five digs and seven blocks; Mytia Barker 16 points, six kills, five aces and nine digs; and Annie Nehrbas three point, six kills and five blocks.
Brittany Bodo added nine points, four kills, 12 digs and two blocks; Carmie Biasi six points and 13 digs; and Taylor Young eight kills and seven assists.
Big Red (10-7) welcomes Buckeye Local on Wednesday for Senior Night.
Park defeats Brooke
WHEELING – The Wheeling Park volleyball team edged visiting Brooke 18-25, 25-11, 25-9, 15-25, 15-11 Thursday night.
Kourtney Leonard delivered five kills, three aces and eight digs; Isabella Preston two kills, two aces and nine digs; and Abby Adams two kills.
Emily Stuck added two kills, eight digs and 19 assists; Taylor Hair two digs; Krista D’Ulisse four digs; and Alexa Gerard two assists and two digs. Alivia Brown had six digs; Jentzen Kowcheck eight digs; and Madison Marchetti four digs.
Junior Angela Staffileno totaled 17 kills, eight blocks and 10 digs.
Brooke (7-13) hosts Edison at 5 p.m. Monday.
Big Red tops Magnolia
NEW MARTINSVILLE – The Steubenville Big Red girls soccer team defeated host Magnolia, 4-1, Thursday.
We played well today, the girls were able to clean up and fix some of the inconsistencies that we have been having,” said Big Red coach Jared Robinson. “Our goal every year is to win more games then we did the previous year. Tonight we were able to play together as a team and accomplish that goal. Now we just have to turn and focus on the other goals we set.”
Allie Zimish collected the hat trick.
Hannah Masloski also scored with Sierra Porter and Elayna Andress having assists. Loren Gray totaled eight saves.
Amy Baker scored for Magnolia with Larissa Pingly having 14 saves.
Redskins win again
MIDDLEBOURNE – The Indian Creek girls soccer team won its second game in a row, something that has not happened in a long time, 5-1 Thursday over host Tyler Consolidated.
Marissa DeFallo recorded the hat trick and Karli Celestin added a pair for the winners. Jalyn Thompson had two assists and Kristen Shimko eight saves.
