Post 33 falls to Post 300

LANCASTER – The Steubenville Post 33 Legion baseball team fell in its second game at the Ohio State Legion Baseball Tournament Tuesday. Post 33 dropped a 9-2 decision to Napoleon Post 300.

Napoleon broke open a 2-1 game with seven runs in the seventh and eighth frames. The major damage was done in the eighth when Post 300 pushed across five runs.

“Once it was 4-1 it was relatively over in the seventh,” said Post 33 head coach Don Young. “Their guy (Zach Wileman) was very good. We couldn’t get a big hit. We left too many guys on base.

“Once it got away from 2-1 we were in big trouble.”

Despite the loss, Alex Young continued to swing a hot bat, collecting three singles and driving in a run for Post 33. Bryan Pierro added a pair of singles as well.

Justin Corsi was tagged with the loss, going seven and a third, striking out two and walking a pair. Chris Murphy and Jimmy Bolyog each pitched in the eighth inning with Bolyog collecting two outs in the frame and Murphy none.

Wileman picked up the win for Post 300, going eight innings and striking out 10 with four free passes. Blake Kuszmaul pitched the ninth in relief.

Zach Fielder and Dylan Hericks each had two RBIs for Napoleon with Fielder collecting three singles and Hericks hitting a home run.

Post 33 (30-11) looks to keep its season alive today at 10 a.m. against Circleville.

“We’ve seen them,” said Young. “They’re a solid team. A lot like Piqua and us. It will take a good game to beat them. They beat up on Cambridge today (Tuesday). It should be a really good game.

“If we win we don’t play until Thursday, so it gives us a chance.”
