Golden Bears defeat Steubenville; Dons split

CHESTER – The Oak Glen boys tennis team defeated visiting Steubenville 5-2 Tuesday.

The Golden Bears won three singles matches as Addison Sayre defeated Stephano Lanni 8-3, Jake Bielmart stopped Anthony Craig 8-3 and Nathan Bennett beat Jorge Dominguez 8-2.

Big Red’s Michael Rosachi downed Evan Hall, 8-3. In doubles, Sayre and Beilmart defeated Lanni and Brandon Llewellyn, 8-3, and Hall and Bennett downed Mark Cole and Charlie Keenan, 9-7. Big Red’s Annie Nehrbas and Anna Vasich edged Cullen Bennett and Derek Chamberlain, 9-7.

Big Red (0-2) will host American Spirit Academy at 4 p.m. Thursday at Belleview.

Dons split with Maroon Knights

WEIRTON – The Weirton Madonna tennis teams split with Wheeling Central Tuesday at Starvaggi Park, the girls winning 6-1 and the Central boys winning 4-3.

In the girls event, Madonna’s Ali Welch defeated Nadine Metzger, 8-1, Tina Conforti nipped Bianco Saporito, 9-7, and Morgan Duerr beat Marichrist Pangil, 8-3.

Wheeling Central’s Hoanna Capito blanked Elizabeth Conforti, 8-0.

In doubles play, Welch and Tina Conforti topped Capito and Metzger, 8-6, and Elizabeth Conforti and Duerr downed Saporito and Pangil, 8-3. Madonna’s Alehandra Fernandez and Christine Bae won by forfeit.

On the boys side, Madonna received wins from Nick Conforti, 8-2, over Jonathan Hurley; Matt Conforti, 9-7, over Brett Seehge; and the Conforti brothers beat Hurley and Seehge, 8-4.

Wheeling Central’s Gus Schmidt beat Domonic Clements, 8-0, and Daniel Lee stopped Thomas Gianni, 8-5. Schmidt and Lee beat Clements and Gianni, 8-1, in doubles play. The Maroon Knights won the No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
