Moray, Wilson advance

COLUMBUS – Steubenville Big Red senior Greg Moray and freshman Tariq Wilson won their opening-round matches Thursday in the Ohio Division II State Wrestling Championships at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University.

Moray earned a 15-6 major decision over Conneaut’s Billy Post at 220 pounds.

Moray will wrestle Brandon Davis of Greenfield McClain, who won by fall, in the quarterfinals today.

Wilson claimed a victory by fall over Dakota Oliver of Louisville in 1:57 at 106. Wilson will meet Eli Stickley of St. Paris Graham Local in the quarterfinals today.

Big Red’s Anthony Craig (126) and Anthony Parada (132) each lost their opening match, but stayed alive in the tournament with evening victories.

They will wrestle today in Round 2 of the consolation bracket.

Seeing their respective seasons come to a close were Indian Creek senior Kyle Moffit (126) and Big Red’s Mark Cole (170), after they both lost twice on Thursday.

The championship quarterfinals are slated for 10:40 a.m. today with the second consolation round at 1 p.m.

The championship semifinals and consolation quarterfinals are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.
