Mobile wagering coming to Mountaineer
CHESTER – The West Virginia Racing Commission has given permission for mobile wagering on the grounds of Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort.
“We anticipate it being available this month,” said Rose Mary Williams, director of racing. The service will initially be available, via dedicated Wi-Fi, in the grandstand. It may eventually be available in the clubhouse, the OTB in the lodge at Mountaineer and in the guest rooms at the Grande Hotel.
“On your smartphone, you’re going to have to log in to www.mpi.mobi to gain access. To open an account, a guest will have to go to an account representative window, in the grandstand at the end of the pari-mutuel teller line, fill out the necessary paper work and make a deposit (the minimum amount will be $25.”)
The tenure of an account will extend through this year’s live Mountaineer racing season, or whenever patrons wish to withdraw their money.
Account holders must be at least 18 years old. Barring technical difficulties, winning wagers will be posted to the accounts as soon as a race is declared official.
Deshawn Parker registered his first victory of the season in the ninth race on Friday, booting home the 1-2 favorite Ice Queen. The 42-year-old Parker subsequently added a pair of victories on Saturday’s abbreviated card, bringing his career total (at all tracks) to 4,215.
Of that number, 4,026 have been achieved at Mountaineer.
Lady Van, a 5-year-old mare, registered the season’s first “boxcar payoff” in the second race on Saturday, driving to a 1 -length victory at odds of 55-1.
The longest shot in the nine-horse field of $5,000 claimers, Lady Van returned $112.00, $19.80 and $14.60 across the board. She was ridden by Jareth Loveberry and is owned and trained by Odin Londono Jr.
It was Lady Van’s second win in her most recent four starts – she returned a $14.80 win mutuel at Mountaineer on Dec. 11. Her career resume now includes 42 starts, four wins, nine placings and purse earnings of $34,848.
With the cancellation of live racing on Saturday, the coupons for free racing T-shirts will be redeemable at the trackside program stand today and Sunday, while supplies last, beginning at 7:15 p.m.
