Oak Glen nipped by JM

NEW MANCHESTER – The John Marshall boys’ basketball team outscored Oak Glen, 13-7, in the fourth quarter to rally for a 41-39 victory Tuesday night at the Oak Glen Fieldhouse.

John Marshall led 10-6 after the first quarter, but Oak Glen cut its deficit to 18-16 at halftime. The Golden Bears outscored the Monarchs, 16-10, in the third to take a 32-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

“Probably the biggest difference was they made six foul shots in the fourth, and we made one,” Oak Glen head coach Dave Smith said. “They were 6-of-10 at the end, and we were 1-of-5 in the end. That was the biggest difference.

“We had some opportunities to take the lead by one. We missed some layups. We couldn’t sustain the lead. We couldn’t keep the lead. They got the lead at the end, and we couldn’t make a shot. We couldn’t make a shot, and we couldn’t make a foul shot.”

Individually for Oak Glen, Kyle Woodruff finished with a team-high 12 points. Matt McLaughlin netted nine points and seven rebounds.

Oak Glen’s next game is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against East Fairmont.
